Va e venca translate to english. You want 4 dollars for it …... I will pass. Come and See is probably the best World War 2 movie I have ever seen. It is also the movie that has affected me the most, leaving me with a feeling of unease for days afterwards. And this is not a bad thing, that is exactly how a movie about war should be. What is impressive about this movie is that it is 100% real, everything that happens is real and that is very obvious to the viewer which is why it is so beyond moving. This is a movie that will not leave anyone unaffected seeing that, even though it is fictional, all of what happens in this movie actually happened in history, but in an even bigger scale. This is what is frightening and what creates the feeling of unease. Klemov does not leave anything to the imagination of the viewer but show in a brutal way just what the Nazis did to the villages and the people in Byelorussia at the time which is a clever way to prevent the reader from ever being completely able to think that "this is just a movie. Horrible, clever, beautiful, frightening, real, absolutely beyond excellent - I cannot praise this movie enough.

This is totally sick.

I couldn't stay seated while I watched this movie. I found myself pacing back and forth because I felt so consumed and emotionally overwhelmed by the film that I had to keep my legs moving to remind myself which world I was in. This film is (pardon my Russian) a motha. masterpiece. It was incredibly difficult to watch, the subject matter deals with one of the most horrific manifestations in human life: war. Every element from the cinematography to the sound design (most incredible sound design I've ever heard by the way) pulls you in further and further. And I don't mean catches your attention, I mean pulls you in to the point of physically experiencing nausea from the emotional weight the film carries. And that's not nausea from gruesome scenes either. It is nausea from the realization that we as humans are capable of creating hell on earth. and watching this unfold is unsettling to say the least. But don't let this deter you, just because this film was a work out to watch, I feel infinitely wiser and more connected to the human race than I ever have. Please watch it, you won't regret it. This is in my Top 5.

One of Studio Ghibli's last feature films before the legendary animation studio went on an indefinite break, The Tale of the Princess Kaguya is Isao Takahata's first picture in over 15 years and happens to be an eloquently narrated, gorgeously animated & patiently paced cinema that attempts to bring on screen one of the oldest tales in Japanese folklore.
The Tale of the Princess Kaguya tells the story of its titular character who was found in a bamboo shoot by a bamboo cutter who, believing her to be a divine presence, brings her home to his wife. Although this mysterious tiny girl grows rapidly into a young lady, dazzling all who encounters her, she eventually is left with no alternative but to confront her own fate.
Co-written & directed by Isao Takahata (best known for Grave of the Fireflies) this tale is crafted with precision care & elegance plus how all of it is animated brings an artistic vibe of its own. The use of colour palette, sketch-like animation & minimalist approach leaves a lasting impression, the voice performances are spot-on while Joe Hisaishi's score nicely compliments the whole narrative.
The Tale of the Princess Kaguya also covers the various restraints women find themselves in every facet of life, no matter what society they happen to be part of, and exposes that without preaching. However, its 137 minutes of runtime feels a tad too long, the final act is stretched, and although its creativity is undeniably impressive, the whole story kind of lacks that immersive element, much like Takahata's earlier works.
On an overall scale, The Tale of the Princess Kaguya brims with some truly astonishing images and is another winning marvel from the acclaimed studio. It's aesthetically pleasing, artistically fulfilling & emotionally gripping and there are going to be many who will have nothing but endless praise for the manner in which this ancient Japanese folklore is illustrated on the film canvas. As for me, I do admire a number of things about Takahata's latest but don't feel any love for it. Still, I've no qualms in recommending it to anyone for it is worthy of a broader audience.

The film was absolutely brilliant, although there was something I really disliked. =SPOILER ALERT=  At the end Sutemaru was ready to abandon his son and wife without a second thought just so he could be with Kaguya, that's kind of a bad message to convey.
Princess Mononoke is outstanding.

Waiting for Anya First edition Author Michael Morpurgo Country United Kingdom Language English Genre Historical novel Publisher William Heinemann Ltd. Publication date 1990 Media type Print ( Hardback & Paperback) Pages 178 ISBN 0-434-95205-2 Waiting for Anya is a children's novel by Michael Morpurgo, first published in Great Britain in 1990, by William Heinemann. It is set in Lescun, in a mountainous region of southern France on the border with Spain. It was shortlisted for the Carnegie Medal. Characters [ edit] Jo - The main character, a shepherd boy, around 15 years old. Benjamin - A Jew who smuggles other Jews across the border to Spain. He lost his daughter Anya, and is waiting for her to arrive in Louvain. Widow Horcada - A secretive old widow and Benjamin's mother in law. She is grumpy, but has a strong moral code. Grandpere - Jo's grandfather; involved in the smuggling of children. Hubert - A kind handicapped boy who is very good friends with Jo. Papa - Jo's father, a prisoner of war ( POW), who is in a German prison for most of the story and helps Jo smuggle the children to Spain. Rouf - Jo's faithful, cute, big, white, fluffy, dog. Michael - The leader of the Polish Jews, and the only one who interacts with Jo (through games of chess). He is noted to be extremely small, as he “looks about half [Jo’s] age”, that is, 7 or 8 years old, despite being around the same age as Jo (15 years old). Summary [ edit] The novel is set in the French village of Lescun during the Second World War. Jo Lalande is a young shepherd who is enjoying his childhood; but when his father goes to fight in the war, Jo has to become the man of the house. After an incident with a bear, Jo meets a mysterious man in the forest. He follows the man to his home and learns his secret - he is a Jew named Benjamin who is waiting for his daughter Anya to come find him as they were split from each other, and he is responsible for smuggling Jewish children to safety across the border into Spain, with the help of his mother-in-law, the Widow Horcada. Jo starts to help them to prove that he can be trusted. German soldiers move into town, and things become much more difficult. Although most of the town's inhabitants come to accept the German occupation, the task of getting the Jewish children across the border becomes more dangerous. Jo, his grandfather, Henri, Benjamin and the Widow Horcada devise a plan to get the children across. The plan requires the whole town to help the children escape, and relies on the German soldiers not noticing what is happening. But if they are caught, their lives will not be worth living... After the children have been taken safely across into Spain, except for Benjamin and Léah. The bear that Benjamin saved earlier on in is ends up getting him caught by the Germans. The German soldiers find them and take them to a concentration camp, where they are presumed to have been executed. Shortly thereafter the war ends and Anya has found her way home.

Waiting for anya trailer. Waiting for anya rotten tomatoes. Waiting for anya audiobook. Waiting for ana. I hope once that when they found Anya, they were also able to find Nunya. Waiting for anya book.

Wooow I can't wait to watch this

As the old adage goes, “never judge a book by its cover. ” Initially, Waiting for Anya is an unassuming piece that seems to tread the same well-worn path as other World War II films. However, in that inconspicuous package is an absolutely lovely surprise. Waiting for Anya is so beautifully put together and so emotionally executed that it hits you like a gust on a windy day. A truly unexpected, but excellent pleasure. Waiting for Anya is adapted from the novel by the same name, written by War Horse author Michael Morpurgo. The film follows a young shepherd boy named Jo, played by Noah Schnapp ( Stranger Things), who helps a reclusive village widow smuggle Jewish children out of Nazi-occupied France into the safety of Spain. The film also stars Anjelica Huston ( The Witches, The Addams Family) and Jean Reno. Waiting for Anya is helmed by writer and director Ben Cookson. “A Good Shepherd Lays Down His Life for His Sheep” At its core, Waiting for Anya is an exploration of humanity. It is about a young boy’s search for dignity and purpose, and his finding incredible courage along the way. There are some experiences that speak to the very core of our selves. These are the moments when we are braver than we ever imagined and driven by the understanding that our humanity and the humanity of others is worth dying for. source: Vertical Entertainment “A good shepherd lays down his life for his sheep. ” Within this line lies the thesis statement of the entire film. Our young Jo learns this lesson and it is what helps him to grow from a frightened child to a young man with dignity and great bravery. Waiting for Anya deftly treads the thin lines between what is good and what is evil. It calls into question how we process our guilt or our innocence. It is a remarkably hopeful piece that is absolutely saturated in human emotion. From the screenwriting to the nuance of the performances, the full spectrum of the human soul is on raw display and beautifully so. A Pastoral Picture To put it very plainly, Waiting for Anya is a gorgeous film. The mountain landscape almost takes on its own character, as both the walls to a prison and the gateway to freedom. Within this rugged setting, deeds are hidden and experiences shape young boys into men. Atop the idyllic scenery, a lilting score. The film’s setting of a quaint French village, dotted with pastures of grazing sheep is deceitfully pastoral. It feels like the sort of place where nothing bad could ever happen and, yet, we see that warm and inviting façade slowly poisoned by the presence of Nazi troops. The styling of Waiting for Anya is quite classical and literary works like Thoreau’s Walden instantly spring to mind when taking it in. A Story of Humanity Must Be Built on People It’s hardly a surprise that World War II and the atrocities of the Holocaust are depicted on-screen over and over. The tragedy speaks to something very deep within every viewer: sometimes in the form of memory or legacy, or simply as one of those cosmic emotional weights that we will carry for the rest of our existence. These stories of bravery and decency are the stories of the very best of us. As I said, at the outset,  Waiting for Anya is a piece about humanity and what would a deeply human piece be without fantastic performances? Noah Schnapp has already impressed audiences over and over again with his emotional intelligence and mature acting instincts.  Waiting for Anya is an ideal showcase of what this young actor can do. It’s impressive to watch him work and to contain the multitudes of innocence and aging within a single performance. Anjelica Huston is always a joy and the stern, fiery Horcada is a perfect role for her. These two are absolutely carrying the film, but they make it look effortless. Waiting for Anya (2020) – source: Vertical Entertainment These great performances are only bolstered by the wonderful script. The storytelling is so deeply grounded and sincere. It pulls you into the heart and soul of the village. Whether by design or good fortune,  Waiting for Anya achieves that sense of community. It feels like the people you know. It feels like your own home. You feel the weight of the consequences. That is difficult to pull off and wonderful to see in a film, so early in the year. Waiting for Anya: Conclusion Waiting for Anya is more than just the beauty of its cinematography. It has a beating heart and the seductive ability to pull you in. This is not one to miss. In times of hardship, it is often too easy to overlook the tinier instances of heroism and bravery that, in so many ways, have an immeasurable impact on human lives.  Waiting for Anya, Ben Cookson's sophomore feature, depicts one such act. Based on the children's novel by Michael Morpurgo, the film follows Jo (Noah Schnapp), a young shepherd, who opts to help his neighbor smuggle Jewish children across the border of southern France into Spain. Before the film's limited theatrical run on February 7, Screen Rant had the opportunity of speaking with its star, Noah Schnapp, about his experience working on the project. How was this project introduced to you and what made you want to be a part of it? Noah Schnapp: I mean it just came my way like any other film project. I read the script and I was really excited about it, especially because it's surrounded around a Jewish character and I myself am Jewish. So I really resonated with it and when I told my family about it, they were excited about [the project] too. I was really into it and [filming] in France with amazing actors was very exciting for me. Was the film offered to you with the idea that Angelica Huston was attached to it because I think that would be a pretty big draw? Noah Schnapp: Yeah, I think they had all the main actors already cast, so it was very exciting for me seeing all of these [people] be a part of it. It's funny you call them main actors because you're really the main actor in this film, in that you're both the face of the movie and the driving force of the narrative. How did you handle that responsibility? Noah Schnapp: It's really exciting to get to be the main character of something. I was on set all the time all day. It was definitely hard work always having to be prepared and being in almost every scene. But it was definitely worth it and I had a great time. I had so many acting opportunities, and just getting to see the film in its final state was really exciting. How does that compare to your  Stranger Things  experience? Because, of course, your career has been defined by that series over the last four or five years. What are the biggest differences in working on a film set and a television set? Noah Schnapp: I mean, it's kind of the same thing. With TV and Stranger Things, it's more dragged out; it's a lot longer. I would live near set for almost a year, nine months, ten months. And for this, it was faster, more like one month, or two months. But they're pretty much the same. In Stranger Things, of course, I have all these kids around me and I feel like on a TV show, you're more connected with everyone already. But it's fun getting on a movie set and getting to know everyone. There're pros and cons to everything. Do you find it easier to do scenes with people you've known for a long time, compared to people you've just met? Noah Schnapp: Yeah, that's a good question. I definitely think it's easier with someone I've known for a long time obviously because I'm more comfortable with them – especially during deep, emotional scenes, it's definitely easier with someone that I'm connected to. Like in Stranger Things, I've had a lot of emotional scenes with Winona [Ryder] and we're very close. Now that I'm thinking about it, it's definitely easier when you're comfortable around the person. So how do you prepare for these emotional scenes when you don't know the other actor? Noah Schnapp: It's always different for whatever the scene asks for but usually, I listen to music before the scene just to get into the mood, mellow myself out and really put myself into the character's shoes. I zone out from everything going on around me and just focus on what I have to do. From there, I just let it happen. But you have to be comfortable with everything because it's kind of awkward and uncomfortable. Even in Stranger Things, doing these crazy intense scenes and all the eyes are on you and all the lights are shining, you have to be able to zone out and focus on what you're doing. You're dealing with a very sensitive topic in this film with the Holocaust. What sorts of things did you watch and take in before doing this film? Noah Schnapp: Just preparing for the movie, I read the book, obviously, which was a great book. And it was actually kind of weird because I remember reading it and realizing it was a children's book, so I was surprised [to find out] how such a deep topic could be turned into a children's book. Then I was wondering how they were going to turn it into a movie, but they did an amzing job. And I also talked to my parents about it a lot, and because my family is Jewish, we all connected to it in a way. I wanted to talk about that because your character himself isn't Jewish, but he does help people who are. Though I don't want to say that religion alone defines experience, in the case of the Holocaust, that's sort of true. As a Jewish person, how did you get into the mindset of a World War 2 era character who wasn't Jewish? Noah Schnapp: It's more of just knowing that during this time period, Judiasim was completely separated from everything else and if you were Jewish, you were a bad person, basically. It was less of "I'm Jewish, " and more of realizing that these religions were very separated. I had to know that going into the room. It sounds like it would be hard to separate that. Noah Schnapp: Yeah, it's what acting is. You have to put yourself in someone else's shoes. That's what it is. Do you find it difficult to stay in this heightened emotional state of mind for extended periods of time? Noah Schnapp: Yeah, it can be challenging. Emotional scenes can be especially difficult because I'm such a hyper, excited person, so sometimes that can be hard. But that's why I listen to music to mellow myself out and do my best to zone out of what's going on around me. Sometimes with these scenes, you have to film them over and over and over all day, and it can be so exhausting when they do it at every angle with so many takes. But usually, if I stay in my zone and don't get out of focus, it doesn't take long. You have another film coming out shortly, Abe, which premiered at last year's Sundance Film Festival. For those of us who weren't at Sundance, what can you tell us about that production? Noah Schnapp: In that production, I play the main character again and it's more centered around food and culture. It's a coming of age story and the kid in that one, actually, is Jewish. Maybe that pulled me more to the project just because I resonated with that. The whole crew was very diverse; some of them were Brazillian and Muslim, and it was just a really cool project to do. So maybe it is easier to step into characters that you share attributes with, even though you separate yourself from them? Noah Schnapp: Yeah, but I also think it's more exciting when I get to play someone who's the polar opposite of me. I'm not always attracted to characters who are similar to me, but in this instance, I was. What can you say about any other projects coming up? Noah Schnapp: Well last summer, I filmed an Adam Sandler movie. And that was really exciting because it was a change of pace from what I usually do: it was a comedy and it was really fun to experience new things and learn a lot about something other than drama. Plus, it was a really lighthearted set and I had a good time. That will be coming up sometime soon. And I'll be filming season 4 of Stranger Things here in a few months. Movies | ‘Waiting for Anya’ Review: Saving Jews as a Rite of Passage A boy in Occupied France, with eyes wide open, must choose what to say about what he sees. Credit... Vertical Entertainment Waiting for Anya Directed by Ben Cookson Drama, War 1h 49m Debates persist about the appropriate ways to depict World War II onscreen, but “stodgily familiar, ” which describes “Waiting for Anya, ” is probably not the most historically sensitive mode. This child’s-eye view of Occupied France is set in a village in the Pyrenees, where, at the outset, Jo (Noah Schnapp), a shepherd’s son, spots a bear and alerts adults. The bear, a mother, is killed (the better to be used as a metaphor). Soon after, Jo discovers that at a nearby farm, a woman (Anjelica Huston) is hiding a Jewish man (Frederick Schmidt) and a growing number of children. His ability to keep that secret, even while he goes eagle-watching with a Nazi corporal (Thomas Kretschmann), is a test of mettle. “Waiting for Anya” is not so sentimental that it imagines every character can escape death. But it has little use for complexity. If there are Nazi collaborators among the French here, for instance, they don’t have notable speaking parts. And making the most prominent German officer sympathetic to saving Jewish children avoids reckoning with the depths of the Third Reich’s evils. Based on a novel by Michael Morpugo (author of “War Horse”), this film suffers from other deficits of verisimilitude. Characters speak English with such strong accents it’s odd that the director, Ben Cookson, didn’t opt for French and German. And as harrowing as Jo’s ordeal may be, the movie doesn’t fail to provide the obligatory uplift. Waiting for Anya Not rated. Running time: 1 hour 49 minutes.

Joias brutal legend. Gosto demais do Joaquim, mas torço pro Adam levar esse Oscar. Maldito Flash, deve ter mexido de novo na linha do tempo, e agora estamos vivendo em uma que o Adam Sandler é indicado ao Oscar. I suppose if you want to spend over two hours of your life watching a sad individual making one wrong move after another, only to be disappointed in the end, proceed. This does not resemble a typical Adam Sandler movie in any way. (I had the same feeling walking out of Tom Cruise's Vanilla Sky several years ago. Say what. Critics may like this art (garbled mess) but I rank it as one of the worst movies I've ever seen. Sorry Adam.

Joias brasil. Reine sobre mim também é bem legal. A truly great film. A constant adrenaline rush with nuance, if there is such a thing. Everything was... alien to me and yet it all made sense. Adam Sandler, never a huge fan, was incredible - sympathetic yet repulsive at the same time. See More. Watch TV Series online Joias Brutas Watch`joias`HD`Full`Online. PUTLOCKER9... Joias brucas. Old news, great movie. An incredibly overrated film made by coke fiends with hardcore ADHD. If you don't appreciate nuance and subtlety and want an experience akin to a sensory overload, then this one's for you. I personally prefer filmmakers that apply due care and due diligence and handle their films with grace, not bombard them with as many things as they can to overwhelm the viewer's senses. It's an utterly claustrophobic, cacophonous, and over-the-top mess that doesn't allow the viewer ample breathing room until the second half of the film, where it actually does slow down and develops into something much more focused and coherent, but not coherent enough to justify the adulterated chaos that preceded it. The sheer amount of times the n-word is unnecessarily used in this film is enough reasonable cause for any non-African American to get uncomfortable and walk out of the theater. And even though the dialogue may be deemed authentic to some viewers, it still promotes ignorant stereotypes and renders the characters frustratingly one-dimensional and flat-out uninteresting.

Pisses me off this got snubbed. A TEN and Sandler DESERVES every single ounce of praise. He should be so proud of this film. I was blown away. Joias brutes. Joias brutas casting. Joias bruts. Jolas brutas. Jonas bruzas mondelez. This movie was a train wreck at it's worst. So much chaos & the yelling. I know it was supposed to be New Yorkers, but seriously. This is Sandler's worst performance & the story was garbage. Save your money.

22 wins & 73 nominations. Uncut Gems – Picture: A24 Films Adam Sandler is appearing in perhaps one of the best movies to release in 2019 in the form of Uncut Gems. The A24 movie may confuse many in terms of its release given Netflix has an output deal with the comedy actor. When will Uncut Gems be on Netflix around the world? Here’s the Netflix release schedule.  The Adam Sandler led drama sees him play the role of a New York City jeweler that gets in over his head after making a series of high-stakes bets. It’s one of Sandler’s most serious roles to date and is already pegged to do well at the Oscars. Uncut Gems comes from the Safdie Brothers and directed by Josh Benny who worked together on 2017’s Good Time, 2014’s Heaven Knows What and 2013’s Lenny Cooke. First and foremost, it’s important to distinguish the difference between this Adam Sandler movie and others in the past few years. A24 is releasing this movie as opposed to Netflix meaning it’s at A24’s discretion. Why isn’t this movie covered by the Adam Sandler output deal? Netflix has an output deal with Happy Maddison Productions which has so far either released or intended to release nine movies on Netflix. This movie is produced by Elara Pictures and IAC Films and simply cast Adam Sandler. When will Uncut Gems be on Netflix outside of the United States? It’s important to note that Netflix will absolutely carry Uncut Gems outside of the US. In September 2018, it was announced that Netflix would be carrying the movie internationally. It’s similar in the way Netflix has carried the likes of Warner Brothers Shaft internationally and more recently, After. It’s technically a Netflix Original but as per our four types of Original list, it falls into the international distribution exclusivity corner. Outside of the United States, every region got the full Uncut Gems on Netflix as of January 31st, 2020. Now streaming: – The final EVER episodes of BoJack Horseman – The final EVER episode of The Good Place – Miss Americana (the Taylor Swift documentary) – Uncut Gems – The Stranger (new series from the mind of @HarlanCoben) – Next in Fashion — Netflix UK & Ireland (@NetflixUK) January 31, 2020 When will Uncut Gems be on Netflix in the United States? Uncut Gems releasing in the US has yet to be confirmed but using past examples, it’s likely Uncut Gems will come to Netflix in the US. As for release dates, our first guess is that Netflix may, like After, get it after its theatrical run finishes and first window rights come up for grabs. That’d mean it’d stream over the summer. If it comes to Netflix as per other A24 releases we could be waiting up to two and a half years before it drops onto Netflix. The good news is that another Safdie Brothers movie is scheduled for release on Netflix in the US in February 2020. Some of you will know that A24 Films does have an exclusive arrangement with Apple TV+ at the moment but that only accounts for the movies the distributor is making exclusively for Netflix. That’s all we know about when Uncut Gems will be on Netflix for now. We’ll update as and when we have more information.

Adam Sandler brigando pelo Oscar? O mundo não é mais o mesmo. Joias brutale. Sobre a disputa do Oscar. Logan, o mundo não é mais o mesmo. The Safdie brothers’ Adam Sandler thriller is brilliant, but watching it is a horrible experience A stream of bluster and bullshit … Adam Sandler in Uncut Gems. Photograph: Julia Cervantes/A24 Y ou won’t see a better-made film this year than Uncut Gems, the Safdie brothers’ propulsive new thriller about the street-level misadventures of a petty crook. Nor will you see one that’s more stressful, aggravating or intensely unpleasant to watch. Uncut Gems may well be a minor masterpiece. It might also be the least enjoyable Adam Sandler movie of all time. As with their previous film Good Time, Josh and Benny Safdie have forged a stunningly effective tale of a man with an unparalleled ability to dig himself into deeper and deeper trouble. Sandler spends two hours at the centre of a spiralling, self-inflicted catastrophe involving Ethiopian opals, big-money bets and knuckle-cracking debt collectors. The plot is filled with a sense of mounting distress, reflected and heightened by the way it’s told: the camera ducks and weaves restlessly, voices yell over each other and jockey for our attention, garish interiors assault our eyes, discordant music fades in and out, diamond necklaces sparkle luridly, doors jam at vital moments. Good Time was a similarly sweat-inducing experience but it did have one merciful element in that its protagonist, Robert Pattinson, stayed largely silent. Sandler’s character, on the other hand, never shuts up – he’s a one-man stream of bluster and bullshit, constantly making promises he can’t fulfil, and has a maddening habit of trying to hold multiple high-stakes conversations at once. Keeping pace with his wheeler-dealer bravado requires infinite patience. To put it simply, Uncut Gems is a film that should come with a panic attack warning. Of course, not every trip to the cinema should leave you feeling warm and fuzzy. In the case of horror films, for instance, the discomfort is the draw. But horror films tend to puncture the tension with jump-scares, which offer their own perverse pleasure. Uncut Gems is the tantric equivalent, with all the rising pressure but none of the release. Besides, being scared is different to being stressed. The Safdie brothers’ films cause stress via a particular kind of sustained intensity, and as such have more in common with a film such as Pi, or the final stretch of Requiem for a Dream. Except that where those films culminated in nightmarish excess, the Safdies’ movies stay grounded in gritty realism – and are all the more claustrophobic for it. Watch a trailer for Uncut Gems Uncut Gems is the work of once-in-a-generation film-makers with remarkable vision and ambition, a visceral antidote to the cookie-cutter blockbusters that generally clog up the multiplexes. Yet, whereas the Marvel movies, for example, are infuriating because they can’t generate any jeopardy or tension, Uncut Gems has the same effect via opposite means, dragging you by the lapels through wrong turn after wrong turn and towards inevitable calamity. It is a thing of technical mastery and uncompromising execution – but so is a punch in the face from Mike Tyson, and that doesn’t go on for two hours. There is one exception. Midway through the film, Sandler’s wife finally snaps, and the scene falls silent while she tells him, slowly and deliberately: “I think you’re the most annoying person on the planet. I hate being with you, I hate looking at you, and if I had my way, I would never see you again. ” It’s a relief to hear someone say it, and it’s the one tiny concession to catharsis in a film that’s otherwise a relentless bombardment of anxiety and apprehension. Most great movies offer the experience of glorious escapism, leaving you dismayed when they finally end and you’re faced once again with real life. Uncut Gems is a great movie with a difference: when it’s over, you escape gratefully back into the real world, safe in the knowledge that life’s pulse-lowering mundanities aren’t so bad after all.

8:33 WOW. KG is soo humble. even though Jimmy wanted to interview KG, KG was like no... he still wanted Sandler to sit first. February 11, 2020 Review by James Lindorf From Director Drew Mylrea, Spy Intervention stars Drew Van Acker (Pretty Little Liars) as Corey Gage, the world’s greatest spy. While out a mission, Corey met the love of his life, Pam Grayson, played by Poppy Delevingne (Kingsman: The Golden Circle. ) Trading his life as a spy, Corey enters the world of domestic bliss, a steady 9-5, weekly trips to the hardware store, and lots of talk of having friends over. As the honeymoon phase is coming to an end, Corey’s old partner, Blake Anderson (Workaholics), comes to him with an offer to capture the villain who got away. Corey must choose between saving the world and saving his marriage. If he isn’t too rusty, maybe he can do both. Rounding out the cast are Brittany Furlan (We Are Your Friends), Max Silvestri (Table 19), Natasha Bassett (Hail, Caesar! ), Brian Sacca (The Wolf of Wall Street), Dave Sheridan (Scary Movie), and Lane Garrison (Shooter). Spy Intervention will be available on major VOD platforms starting Valentine’s Day. Producer Sunil Perkash (Salt, Enchanted) isn’t a stranger to big-budget films where money can solve most of the problems that come up during production. Perkash and first-time feature-length Director Mylrea didn’t have that luxury or that burden on this film. When the amount of money dedicated to a project increases, so do the expectations. Not just about how well it will perform at the box office but how the film will look. Nothing but the latest and greatest special effects are expected for a 250-million-dollar movie like James Bond’s latest outing No Time to Die. When the team set out to design the look of Spy Intervention, they knew they would have a modest budget, and they wanted to have a plan. The settled on blending the modern with the classic in every aspect from set design to cinematography. The sets and props of the spy world are obvious fakes, but the way they are presented and how the cast interacts with them is the crucial factor. The actors all treat it like it is perfectly natural, and they are not played directly for laughs. Sure, when it looks like they are on the set of a play, using an obvious miniature or you swear the strings are still attached, it can be humorous. Still, it can also pull at the nostalgia strings tied to your affection for spy films of the 60s. The most significant change from Corey’s ordinary life to his spy mission is the aspect ratio that it is presented. Corey’s home life is shown in standard 16:9 ratio, which will fit your widescreen tv perfectly. His missions, however, are shown in 4:3, cutting off the edges like TV in the ’80s and ’90s. Mylrea and cinematographer Danny Grunes also played with the lighting and coloring of scenes for a little added flair. In a romantic spy comedy keeping the right tone falls heavily on the shoulders of the cast. Avy Kaufman was in charge of casting and was especially successful with the addition of Poppy Delevingne. Though she may not be as well known as her younger sister Cara, Poppy may be the superior actor. Poppy handles the comedic scenes well but excels in the film’s dramatic moments. You believe in the fear, anger, and self-doubt that she experiences as she begins to question Corey’s recent behavior. Drew Van Acker is probably best known for his role on the CW show Pretty Little Liars, which isn’t always known for stretching your acting ability. While he may not be as good as Poppy, he does handle himself well. Drew projects the image of a secret agent who would be more at home in the world of Kingsman with their attitude and comedic bend than he would be working with James Bond. Drew was at his best when he was sharing the screen with Poppy, which I good because it is the central relationship, but it does take away a bit from the spy scenes. Natasha Bassett, who plays Corey’s spy wife Alexandria, brought energy and a lot of charisma to her scenes that wanted more of every time she was off-screen. Drew Mylrea, along with writers Mark Famiglietti and Lane Garrison, did an excellent job walking the tightrope between heartfelt romantic story and a spy-themed action-comedy. While watching, you can’t help to compare it to movies like True Lies or This Means War, and while it may not have the budget of either of those projects, it does have heart, and it does have character. While it may not reach the peaks of True Lies, there are good odds that those who see Spy Intervention will want to introduce their friends and family to it, and it won’t be quickly forgotten.

LOS ANGELES – Life couldn’t be going any better for Brittany Furlan. The 33-year-old wife of Mötley Crüe drummer Tommy Lee and longtime Internet sensation is quickly establishing herself as a viable performer through her roles on the big and small screens, most notably in the 2018 Netflix  documentary “American Meme” and more recently in the original Mötley Crüe biopic for Netflix called “ The Dirt, ” which saw rapper Machine Gun Kelly  star as Tommy Lee. Now, with future projects in development and her first film of 2020, “Spy Intervention, ” premiering this Valentine’s Day, Furlan sat down with Fox News and opened up about her growth as an actress since debuting in her own videos on YouTube and the now-defunct social media app, Vine, where she recorded and released more than 5, 000 six-second clips all in the name of comedy – which is certainly in Furlan’s wheelhouse. (Photo by Paul Archuleta/FilmMagic) “I love acting. That's what I originally wanted to do when I came to L. A. When I was 17, I was like, 'I want to act. ' This is what I want to do, ” Furlan said of performing and how it's quickly become her obsession to add to her resume. “And then I started doing stand-up. And I was kind of trying to figure out my way. And then the Vine thing came along and with Vine, it was like all this success. ” The “We Are Your Friends” actress lamented the uphill battle she and many other “Internet celebrities” with acting aspirations faced by not always being given opportunities to showcase themselves. “People kind of didn't take you seriously as an actor because they're like, 'Oh, you're from the Internet. You don’t know [how to act]. " — Brittany Furlan “People kind of didn't take you seriously as an actor because they're like, 'Oh, you're from the Internet. You don’t know [how to act], ’” Furlan explained. “But then finally, people started auditioning me and giving me chances. And then I got to do 'Spy' and I got to do a new TV show called 'Paradise City' and it's been really fun. It's been awesome. ” Brittany Furlan attends the "Spy Intervention" premiere at Ahrya Fine Arts Movie Theater on February 12, 2020 in Beverly Hills, California. (Robin L Marshall/Getty Images) She continued: “You know, people give you shots and you become friends with people and then you really get to show them it's not just one thing. It's great that people are starting to not pigeonhole us as much where it's like, 'Oh, you only do this one thing. That's all you can do. ' You know, a lot of people have multiple talents and can do multiple things. So I'm so grateful for that, that I've had the opportunity. ” BRITTANY FURLAN HASN'T MET FIANCÉ TOMMY LEE'S EX PAMELA ANDERSON, HOPES THEY CAN BE FRIENDS ONE DAY In her newest flick, “Spy Intervention” sees the world’s greatest spy, played by “Pretty Little Liars” star Drew Van Acker, 33, attempt to settle into suburban life after meeting the love of his life in Pam Grayson, played by actress and model Cara Delevigne’s older sister, Poppy Delevigne, 33. It’s not until Acker’s character, Corey Gage, becomes bored of his quaint life, that a “spy intervention” is set in motion by his old buddy, which is all Gage needs to save the world and possibly his listless marriage. Furlan said she jumped at the opportunity to do “Spy Intervention, ” not because she was eager to prove her acting chops, but in reading the script, the Vine queen said she simply loved the dialogue of her character given the comedic personality of Brianna Brown, who is the best friend of Delevigne’s character, Pam. “Honestly, when I got sent the script and I read it, I just loved my character's lines just because she's so forthright, ” said Furlan. “She’s so just, abrasive and she just has such an attitude. It was just such a fun character that I was like, 'Oh, my God. I have to play this role. '” Brittany Furlan attends the LA premiere of 'The Unicorn' at ArcLight Hollywood on January 10, 2019 in Hollywood, California. (Emma McIntyre/Getty Images) Furlan said playing the role of the “psycho friend” was “perfect” for her because of her ability to improvise. TOMMY LEE AND SON BRANDON MAKE AMENDS MONTHS AFTER PHYSICAL ALTERCATION: 'I LOVE YOU SON' “That's kind of my forte, so it was just awesome to watch Poppy and Drew, who had the brunt of the dialogue and the brunt of the film, really handle it so professionally, ” she said. “And I'm talking about like pages and pages and pages. Just every day, I would see them just reading something and they would just nail it. And it was just so impressive to see that. I mean, just so much dialogue – I was really impressed by them. ” In addition to Furlan’s rapid dash into acting, the online entrepreneur also has a real connection to Valentine’s Day as she married Mötley Crüe rocker Tommy Lee last year on the holiday of love, just one year after announcing their engagement. Furlan said her marriage to Lee, 57, has been nothing but flower blossoms and raved about the incredible support Lee has shown her throughout their entire journey as a couple, which of course, first started on the Internet. “I think that's what a marriage is. I mean, obviously, my husband is extremely successful and has a huge tour coming up. They're going on an amazingly huge tour. And actually, it's gonna be my first time getting to actually see him play, ” she said. “And I'm so excited. So I will be right by his side for that. But it's cool when I have things that do come up, obviously, he's much busier than I am. But when I do have things come up, that's a nice thing in a marriage is when you have someone that will be supportive. ” "That's what's so cool about him is that he is so busy and has all these things coming up but if I have a movie or a premiere or something, he’s like, ‘I'll be there for you. '" — Brittany Furlan on husband Tommy Lee MOTLEY CRUE DRUMMER TOMMY LEE BRAGS ABOUT WIFE BRITTANY FURLAN'S '100 PERCENT NATURAL BODY' She continued: “That's what's so cool about him is that he is so busy and has all these things coming up but if I have a movie or a premiere or something, he’s like, ‘I'll be there for you, ’ and I think that's what makes a marriage really nice is when you're supportive of one another and you're really there for one another. " At an interview with Fox News, published in January 2019, Furlan was still a fiancée, but she also told us that she'd never met Lee’s ex, Pamela Anderson. A year later, Furlan is OK with it, even after saying at the time that she one day wished to become friends with Anderson, who just ended a 12-day marriage to movie mogul Jon Peters. “I don't know. I mean, I guess there's no real need to, ” she said of her relationship with Anderson, 52. “The boys [Lee and Anderson's sons Brandon and Dylan] are grown up so it's not like [there's] a custody thing. You know, they're 23 and 22. It's not like, 'Oh, we've got the kids this weekend. ' It's not like that. ” Of Anderson’s short marriage to Peters, Furlan said she certainly feels for Anderson and her happiness, and even spoke to the difficulty of finding love in Tinseltown. PAMELA ANDERSON SLAMS EX JON PETERS' CLAIM HE PAID HER $200G DEBT AS 'LUDICROUS, FABRICATED' “I don't judge anybody, ” she said. “I'm just like, 'You know, I'm happily married and my life is great' and I hope everyone finds the person that makes them happy. I think that's all you can do and I think we're all just looking for love. ” “Sometimes people think they've found it and then things turn out differently or whatever, ” she continued. “I just hope for everyone that they find someone that makes them so happy. It's a hard place to find love, L. A., it's a very hard place. And I think a lot of people come out here – especially from small towns – and you think, ‘Oh, it's gonna be just like Wisconsin or it's gonna be just like Pennsylvania, ’ and it's not. “People are different out here, ” Furlan added. “So it's hard. And I'm so lucky that I found someone who is awesome and caring and loving and genuine and has a big heart. Yeah, it's not an easy place. ” Furlan’s happiness permeated the room as she gushed about her husband and championed “Spy Intervention” as the ultimate date-night flick worthy of any couple’s time. CLICK HERE TO GET THE FOX NEWS APP “I'm so excited that it's coming out on Valentine's Day because it's a fun film to see with your significant other, ” she said. “It has this really fun story arc … and it's a loving film and it's a funny film. It's not deep where you're gonna be weeping or that kind of thing. ” Furlan added: “It's just lighthearted and the cast is so great. I mean, you have Blake Anderson from 'Workaholics' and Brian Saka, who was in 'Wrecked. ' There's just so many people in this film who are so talented. ” “Spy Intervention” will premiere on Friday, Feb. 14 in several major theatrical markets including Los Angeles, Houston, Cleveland, Dallas and many others and is also available on digital video.

It is the successor to Windows 8. 1, and was released to manufacturing on July 15, 2015, and broadly released for retail sale on July 29, 2015. [14] Windows 10 receives new builds on an ongoing basis, which are available at no additional cost to users, in addition to additional test builds of Windows 10 which are available to Windows Insiders. Devices in enterprise environments can receive these updates at a slower pace, or use long-term support milestones that only receive critical updates, such as security patches, over their ten-year lifespan of extended support. [15] [16] One of Windows 10's most notable features is its support for universal apps, an expansion of the Metro-style apps first introduced in Windows 8. Universal apps can be designed to run across multiple Microsoft product families with nearly identical code‍—‌including PCs, tablets, smartphones, embedded systems, Xbox One, Surface Hub and Mixed Reality. The Windows user interface was revised to handle transitions between a mouse-oriented interface and a touchscreen -optimized interface based on available input devices‍—‌particularly on 2-in-1 PCs, both interfaces include an updated Start menu which incorporates elements of Windows 7 's traditional Start menu with the tiles of Windows 8. Windows 10 also introduced the Microsoft Edge web browser, a virtual desktop system, a window and desktop management feature called Task View, support for fingerprint and face recognition login, new security features for enterprise environments, and DirectX 12. Windows 10 received mostly positive reviews upon its original release in July 2015. Critics praised Microsoft's decision to provide a desktop-oriented interface in line with previous versions of Windows, contrasting the tablet-oriented approach of 8, although Windows 10's touch-oriented user interface mode was criticized for containing regressions upon the touch-oriented interface of Windows 8. Critics also praised the improvements to Windows 10's bundled software over Windows 8. 1, Xbox Live integration, as well as the functionality and capabilities of the Cortana personal assistant and the replacement of Internet Explorer with Edge. However, media outlets have been critical of changes to operating system behaviors, including mandatory update installation, privacy concerns over data collection performed by the OS for Microsoft and its partners and the adware -like tactics used to promote the operating system on its release. [17] Although Microsoft's goal to have Windows 10 installed on over a billion devices within three years of its release had failed [15] (on over 900 million over four years later [18]), it still has an estimated usage share of 65% of all the Windows versions on traditional PCs, and thus 50% of traditional PCs were running Windows 10 by December 2019. [20] Across all platforms (PC, mobile, tablet and console), 35% of devices run some kind of Windows, Windows 10 or older. [21] Development [ edit] At the Microsoft Worldwide Partner Conference in 2011, Andrew Lees, the chief of Microsoft's mobile technologies, said that the company intended to have a single software ecosystem for PCs, phones, tablets, and other devices. "We won't have an ecosystem for PCs, and one for phones, and one for tablets‍—‌they'll all come together. " [22] [23] In December 2013, technology writer Mary Jo Foley reported that Microsoft was working on an update to Windows 8 codenamed "Threshold", after a planet in Microsoft's Halo video game franchise. [24] Similarly to "Blue" (which became Windows 8. 1), [25] Foley called Threshold a "wave of operating systems" across multiple Microsoft platforms and services, scheduled for the second quarter of 2015. Foley reported that among the goals for Threshold was to create a unified application platform and development toolkit for Windows, Windows Phone and Xbox One (which all use a similar Windows NT kernel). [24] [26] In April 2014, at the Build Conference, Microsoft's Terry Myerson unveiled an updated version of Windows 8. 1 (build 9697) that added the ability to run Windows Store apps inside desktop windows and a more traditional Start menu in place of the Start screen seen in Windows 8. The new Start menu takes after Windows 7 's design by using only a portion of the screen and including a Windows 7-style application listing in the first column. The second column displays Windows 8-style app tiles. Myerson said that these changes would occur in a future update, but did not elaborate. [27] [28] Microsoft also unveiled the concept of a "universal Windows app", allowing Windows Store apps created for Windows 8. 1 to be ported to Windows Phone 8. 1 and Xbox One while sharing a common codebase, with an interface designed for different device form factors, and allowing user data and licenses for an app to be shared between multiple platforms. Windows Phone 8. 1 would share nearly 90% of the common Windows Runtime APIs with Windows 8. 1 on PCs. [27] [29] [30] [31] Screenshots of a Windows build which purported to be Threshold were leaked in July 2014, showing the previously presented Start menu and windowed Windows Store apps [32] followed by a further screenshot in September 2014 of a build identifying itself as "Windows Technical Preview", numbered 9834, showing a new virtual desktop system, a notification center, and a new File Explorer icon. [33] Announcement [ edit] Threshold was officially unveiled during a media event on September 30, 2014, under the name Windows 10; Myerson said that Windows 10 would be Microsoft's "most comprehensive platform ever", providing a single, unified platform for desktop computers, laptops, tablets, smartphones, and all-in-one devices. [34] [35] [36] He emphasized that Windows 10 would take steps towards restoring user interface mechanics from Windows 7 to improve the experience for users on non-touch devices, noting criticism of Windows 8's touch-oriented interface by keyboard and mouse users. [37] [38] Despite these concessions, Myerson noted that the touch-oriented interface would evolve as well on 10. [39] In regards to Microsoft naming the new operating system Windows 10 instead of Windows 9, Terry Myerson said that "based on the product that's coming, and just how different our approach will be overall, it wouldn't be right to call it Windows 9. " [40] He also joked that they could not call it "Windows One" (alluding to several recent Microsoft products with a similar brand, such as OneDrive, OneNote, and Xbox One) because Windows 1. 0 already existed. [41] Tony Prophet, Microsoft Vice President of Windows Marketing, said at a San Francisco conference in October 2014 that Windows 9 "came and went", and that Windows 10 is not "an incremental step from Windows 8. 1, " but "a material step. We're trying to create one platform, one eco-system that unites as many of the devices [ sic] from the small embedded Internet of Things, through tablets, through phones, through PCs and, ultimately, into the Xbox. " [42] Further details surrounding Windows 10's consumer-oriented features were presented during another media event held on January 21, 2015, entitled "Windows 10: The Next Chapter". The keynote featured the unveiling of Cortana integration within the operating system, new Xbox -oriented features, Windows 10 Mobile, an updated Office Mobile suite, Surface Hub ‍—‌a large-screened Windows 10 device for enterprise collaboration based upon Perceptive Pixel technology, [43] along with HoloLens ‑ augmented reality eyewear and an associated platform for building apps that can render holograms through HoloLens. [44] Additional developer-oriented details surrounding the " Universal Windows Platform " concept were revealed and discussed during Microsoft's developers' conference Build. Among them were the unveiling of "Islandwood", which provides a middleware toolchain for compiling Objective-C based software (particularly iOS software) to run as universal apps on Windows 10 and Windows 10 Mobile. A port of Candy Crush Saga made using the toolkit, which shared much of its code with the iOS version, was demonstrated, alongside the announcement that the King -developed game would be bundled with Windows 10 at launch. [45] [46] [47] [48] Release [ edit] On June 1, 2015, Microsoft announced that Windows 10 would be released on July 29, 2015. [14] Microsoft began an advertising campaign centering on Windows 10, "Upgrade Your World", on July 20, 2015 with the premiere of television commercials in Australia, Canada, France, Germany, Japan, the United Kingdom, and the United States. The commercials focused on the tagline "A more human way to do", emphasizing new features and technologies supported by Windows 10 that sought to provide a more "personal" experience to users. [49] [50] The campaign culminated with launch events in thirteen cities on July 29, which celebrated "the unprecedented role our biggest fans played in the development of Windows 10". [51] Features [ edit] Windows 10 makes its user experience and functionality more consistent between different classes of device, and addresses shortcomings in the user interface that were introduced in Windows 8. [37] [38] [52] Windows 10 Mobile, the successor to Windows Phone 8. 1, shared some user interface elements and apps with its PC counterpart. [53] The Windows Runtime app ecosystem was revised into the Universal Windows Platform (UWP). [29] [54] [55] These universal apps are made to run across multiple platforms and device classes, including smartphones, tablets, Xbox One consoles, and other compatible Windows 10 devices. Windows apps share code across platforms, have responsive designs that adapt to the needs of the device and available inputs, can synchronize data between Windows 10 devices (including notifications, credentials, and allowing cross-platform multiplayer for games), and are distributed through Microsoft Store (rebranded from Windows Store since September 2017). [56] Developers can allow "cross-buys", where purchased licenses for an app apply to all of the user's compatible devices, rather than only the one they purchased on (e. g., a user purchasing an app on PC is also entitled to use the smartphone version at no extra cost). [30] [57] [58] On Windows 10, Microsoft Store serves as a unified storefront for apps, video content, and ebooks. [59] Windows 10 also allows web apps and desktop software (using either Win32 or Framework) to be packaged for distribution on Microsoft Store. Desktop software distributed through Windows Store is packaged using the App-V system to allow sandboxing. [60] [61] User interface and desktop [ edit] The " Task View " display is a new feature to Windows 10, allowing the use of multiple workspaces. A new iteration of the Start menu is used on the Windows 10 desktop, with a list of places and other options on the left side, and tiles representing applications on the right. The menu can be resized, and expanded into a full-screen display, which is the default option in Tablet mode. [37] [52] [62] A new virtual desktop system was added. A feature known as Task View displays all open windows and allows users to switch between them, or switch between multiple workspaces. [37] [52] Universal apps, which previously could be used only in full screen mode, can now be used in self-contained windows similarly to other programs. [37] [52] Program windows can now be snapped to quadrants of the screen by dragging them to the corner. When a window is snapped to one side of the screen, Task View appears and the user is prompted to choose a second window to fill the unused side of the screen (called "Snap Assist"). [52] Windows' system icons were also changed. [62] Charms have been removed; their functionality in universal apps is accessed from an App commands menu on their title bar. [37] [52] In its place is Action Center, which displays notifications and settings toggles. It is accessed by clicking an icon in the notification area, or dragging from the right of the screen. Notifications can be synced between multiple devices. [53] [62] The Settings app (formerly PC Settings) was refreshed and now includes more options that were previously exclusive to the desktop Control Panel. Windows 10 is designed to adapt its user interface based on the type of device being used and available input methods. It offers two separate user interface modes: a user interface optimized for mouse and keyboard, and a "Tablet mode" designed for touchscreens. Users can toggle between these two modes at any time, and Windows can prompt or automatically switch when certain events occur, such as disabling Tablet mode on a tablet if a keyboard or mouse is plugged in, or when a 2-in-1 PC is switched to its laptop state. In Tablet mode, programs default to a maximized view, and the taskbar contains a back button and hides buttons for opened or pinned programs; Task View is used instead to switch between programs. The full screen Start menu is used in this mode, similarly to Windows 8, but scrolls vertically instead of horizontally. [38] [65] [66] [67] System security [ edit] Windows 10 incorporates multi-factor authentication technology based upon standards developed by the FIDO Alliance. [68] The operating system includes improved support for biometric authentication through the Windows Hello platform. Devices with supported cameras (requiring infrared illumination, such as Intel RealSense) allow users to log in with iris or face recognition, similarly to Kinect. Devices with supported readers allow users to log in through fingerprint recognition. Support was also added for palm-vein scanning through a partnership with Fujitsu in February 2018. [69] Credentials are stored locally and protected using asymmetric encryption. [70] In addition to biometric authentication, Windows Hello supports authentication with a PIN. By default, Windows requires a PIN to consist of four digits, but can be configured to permit more complex pins. However, a PIN is not a simpler password. While passwords are transmitted to domain controllers, PINs are not. They are tied to one device, and if compromised, only one device is affected. Backed by a Trusted Platform Module (TPM) chip, Windows uses PINs to create strong asymmetric key pairs. As such, the authentication token transmitted to the server is harder to crack. In addition, whereas weak passwords may be broken via rainbow tables, TPM causes the much-simpler Windows PINs to be resilient to brute-force attacks. [71] When Windows 10 was first introduced, multi-factor authentication was provided by two components: Windows Hello and Passport (not to be confused with the Passport platform of 1998). Later, Passport was merged into Windows Hello. [72] [70] The enterprise version of Windows 10 offers additional security features; administrators can set up policies for the automatic encryption of sensitive data, selectively block applications from accessing encrypted data, and enable Device Guard ‍—‌a system which allows administrators to enforce a high-security environment by blocking the execution of software that is not digitally signed by a trusted vendor or Microsoft. Device Guard is designed to protect against zero-day exploits, and runs inside a hypervisor so that its operation remains separated from the operating system itself. [68] [73] Command line [ edit] Win32 console windows can now be resized without any restrictions, can be made to cover the full screen by pressing Alt + ↵ Enter, and can use standard keyboard shortcuts, such as those for cut, copy, and paste. Other features such as word wrap and transparency were also added. These functions can be disabled to revert to the legacy console if needed. [74] The Anniversary Update adds Windows Subsystem for Linux, which allows the installation of a user space environment from a supported Linux distribution that runs natively on Windows. The subsystem translates Linux system calls that the Linux system uses to those of the Windows NT kernel. The environment can execute the Bash shell and 64-bit command line programs. Windows applications cannot be executed from the Linux environment, and vice versa. Linux distributions for Windows Subsystem for Linux are obtained through Microsoft Store. The feature initially supported an Ubuntu -based environment; Microsoft announced in May 2017 that it would add Fedora and OpenSUSE environment options as well. [75] [76] [77] [78] [79] [80] [81] Storage requirements [ edit] To reduce the storage footprint of the operating system, Windows 10 automatically compresses system files. The system can reduce the storage footprint of Windows by approximately 1. 5   GB for 32-bit systems and 2. 6   GB for 64-bit systems. The level of compression used is dependent on a performance assessment performed during installations or by OEMs, which tests how much compression can be used without harming operating system performance. Furthermore, the Refresh and Reset functions use runtime system files instead, making a separate recovery partition redundant, allowing patches and updates to remain installed following the operation, and further reducing the amount of space required for Windows 10 by up to 12   GB. These functions replace the WIMBoot mode introduced on Windows 8. 1 Update, which allowed OEMs to configure low-capacity devices with flash-based storage to use Windows system files out of the compressed WIM image typically used for installation and recovery. [82] [83] [84] Windows 10 also includes a function in its Settings app that allows users to view a breakdown of how their device's storage capacity is being used by different types of files, and determine whether certain types of files are saved to internal storage or an SD card by default. [85] Online services and functionality [ edit] Windows 10 introduces a new default web browser, Microsoft Edge. It initially featured a new standards -compliant rendering engine derived from Trident, and also includes annotation tools and integration with other Microsoft platforms present within Windows 10. [86] [87] [88] Internet Explorer 11 is maintained on Windows 10 for compatibility purposes, but is deprecated in favor of Edge and will no longer be actively developed. [89] [90] In January 2020, the initial version of Edge was succeeded by a new iteration that is derived from the Chromium project and Blink layout engine. [91] Windows 10 incorporates Microsoft's intelligent personal assistant, Cortana, which was first introduced with Windows Phone 8. 1 in 2014. Cortana replaced Windows' embedded search feature, supporting both text and voice input. Many of its features are a direct carryover from Windows Phone, including integration with Bing, setting reminders, a Notebook feature for managing personal information, as well as searching for files, playing music, launching applications and setting reminders or sending emails. [92] [93] Cortana is implemented as a universal search box located alongside the Start and Task View buttons, which can be hidden or condensed to a single button. [62] Microsoft Family Safety is replaced by Microsoft Family, a parental controls system that applies across Windows platforms and Microsoft online services. Users can create a designated family, and monitor and restrict the actions of users designated as children, such as access to websites, enforcing age ratings on Microsoft Store purchases, and other restrictions. The service can also send weekly e-mail reports to parents detailing a child's computer usage. Unlike previous versions of Windows, child accounts in a family must be associated with a Microsoft account‍—‌which allows these settings to apply across all Windows 10 devices that a particular child is using. [94] [95] Windows 10 also offers the Wi-Fi Sense feature originating from Windows Phone 8. 1; users can optionally have their device automatically connect to suggested open hotspots, and share their home network's password with contacts (either via Skype, People, or Facebook) so they may automatically connect to the network on a Windows 10 device without needing to manually enter its password. Credentials are stored in an encrypted form on Microsoft servers and sent to the devices of the selected contacts. Passwords are not viewable by the guest user, and the guest user is not allowed to access other computers or devices on the network. Wi-Fi Sense is not usable on 802. 1X -encrypted networks. Adding "_optout" at the end of the SSID will also block the corresponding network from being used for this feature. [96] Universal calling and messaging apps for Windows 10 are built in as of the November 2015 update: Messaging, Skype Video, and Phone. These offer built-in alternatives to the Skype download and sync with Windows 10 Mobile. [97] [98] Multimedia and gaming [ edit] Windows 10 provides heavier integration with the Xbox ecosystem. Xbox SmartGlass is succeeded by the Xbox Console Companion (formerly the Xbox app), which allows users to browse their game library (including both PC and Xbox console games), and Game DVR is also available using a keyboard shortcut, allowing users to save the last 30 seconds of gameplay as a video that can be shared to Xbox Live, OneDrive, or elsewhere. [99] [100] Windows 10 also allows users to control and play games from an Xbox One console over a local network. [101] The Xbox Live SDK allows application developers to incorporate Xbox Live functionality into their apps, and future wireless Xbox One accessories, such as controllers, are supported on Windows with an adapter. [102] Microsoft also intends to allow cross-buys and save synchronization between Xbox One and Windows 10 versions of games; Microsoft Studios games such as ReCore and Quantum Break are intended as being exclusive to Windows 10 and Xbox One. [103] Candy Crush Saga and Microsoft Solitaire Collection are also automatically installed upon installation of Windows 10. [104] [105] Windows 10 adds native game recording and screenshot capture ability using the newly introduced game bar. Users can also have the OS continuously record gameplay in the background, which then allows the user to save the last few moments of gameplay to the storage device. [106] Windows 10 adds FLAC and HEVC codecs and support for the Matroska media container, allowing these formats to be opened in Windows Media Player and other applications. [107] [108] [109] DirectX 12 [ edit] Windows 10 includes DirectX 12, alongside WDDM 2. [110] [111] Unveiled March 2014 at GDC, DirectX 12 aims to provide " console -level efficiency" with "closer to the metal" access to hardware resources, and reduced CPU and graphics driver overhead. [112] [113] Most of the performance improvements are achieved through low-level programming, which allow developers to use resources more efficiently and reduce single- threaded CPU bottlenecking caused by abstraction through higher level APIs. [114] [115] DirectX 12 will also feature support for vendor agnostic multi-GPU setups. [116] WDDM 2. 0 introduces a new virtual memory management and allocation system to reduce workload on the kernel-mode driver. [110] [117] Fonts [ edit] Windows 10 adds three new default typefaces to Windows 8, but removes dozens of others. The removed typefaces are available in supplemental packs and may be added manually over a non-metered internet connection. Default fonts The following font families are included by default in the Desktop edition of Windows 10, if the language installation uses the Latin script (as English does). Most continue from Windows 8, though they may have been modified. New font families introduced with Windows 10 are marked by asterisks. Home is aimed at home users, while Pro is aimed at small businesses. Each edition of Windows   10 includes all of the capabilities and features of the edition below it, and add additional features oriented towards their market segments; for example, Pro adds additional networking and security features such as BitLocker, Device Guard, Windows Update for Business, and the ability to join a domain. The remaining editions, Enterprise and Education, contain additional features aimed towards business environments, and are only available through volume licensing. [120] [121] As part of Microsoft's unification strategies, Windows products that are based on Windows 10's common platform but meant for specialized platforms are marketed as editions of the operating system, rather than as separate product lines. An updated version of Microsoft's Windows Phone operating system for smartphones, and also tablets, was branded as Windows 10 Mobile. [122] Editions of Enterprise and Mobile will also be produced for embedded systems, along with Windows 10 IoT Core, which is designed specifically for use in small footprint, low-cost devices and Internet of Things (IoT) scenarios and is similar to Windows Embedded. [120] [121] On May 2, 2017, Microsoft unveiled Windows 10 S (referred to in leaks as Windows 10 Cloud), a feature-limited version of Windows 10 which was designed primarily for devices in the education market (competing, in particular, with Chrome OS netbooks), such as the Surface Laptop that Microsoft also unveiled at this time. The OS restricts software installation to applications obtained from Microsoft Store; the device may be upgraded to Windows 10 Pro for a fee to enable unrestricted software installation. As a time-limited promotion, Microsoft stated that this upgrade would be free on the Surface Laptop until March 31, 2018. [123] Windows 10 S also contains a faster initial setup and login process, and allows devices to be provisioned using a USB drive with the Windows Intune for Education platform. [124] [125] [126] [127] [128] In March 2018, Microsoft announced that Windows 10 S would be deprecated due to market confusion, and would be replaced by "S Mode", an OEM option wherein Windows defaults to only allowing applications to be installed from Microsoft Store, but does not require payment in order to disable these restrictions. [129] [130] Preview releases [ edit] A public beta program for Windows   10 known as the Windows Insider Program began with the first publicly available preview release on October 1, 2014. Insider preview builds are aimed towards enthusiasts and enterprise users for the testing and evaluation of updates and new features. [131] Users of the Windows Insider program receive occasional updates to newer preview builds of the operating system and will continue to be able to evaluate preview releases after general availability (GA) in July 2015‍—‌this is in contrast to previous Windows beta programs, where public preview builds were released less frequently and only during the months preceding GA. [37] [39] [132] [133] [134] Windows Insider builds continued being released after the release to manufacturing (RTM) of Windows   10. [135] [136] Public release [ edit] Microsoft promoted that Windows 10 would become generally available (GA) on July 29, 2015. In comparison to previous Windows releases, which had a longer turnover between the release to manufacturing (RTM) and general release to allow for testing by vendors (and in some cases, the development of "upgrade kits" to prepare systems for installation of the new version), an HP Inc. executive explained that because it knew Microsoft targeted the operating system for a release in 2015, the company was able to optimize its then-current and upcoming products for Windows 10 in advance of its release, negating the need for such a milestone. [137] [ better source needed] The general availability build of Windows   10, numbered 10240, was first released on July 15, 2015 to Windows Insider channels for pre-launch testing prior to its formal release. [138] [139] Although a Microsoft official said that there would be no specific RTM build of Windows 10, 10240 was described as an RTM build by media outlets because it was released to all Windows Insider members at once (rather than to users on the "Fast ring" first), it no longer carried pre-release branding and desktop watermark text, and because its build number had mathematical connections to the number   10 in reference to the operating system's naming. [140] [141] [142] [143] [144] [145] The Enterprise edition was released to volume licensing on August 1, 2015. [146] Users are able to in-place upgrade through the "Get Windows   10" application (GWX) and Windows Update, [147] or the "Media Creation Tool", which is functionally identical to the Windows 8 online installer, and can also be used to generate an ISO image or USB install media. [148] In-place upgrades are supported from most editions of Windows 7 with Service Pack 1 and Windows   8. 1 with Update 1, while users with Windows   8 must first upgrade to Windows   8. Changing between architectures (e. g., upgrading from 32-bit edition to a 64-bit editions) via in-place upgrades is not supported; a clean install is required. [149] [150] In-place upgrades may be rolled back to the device's previous version of Windows, provided that 30   days have not passed since installation, and backup files were not removed using Disk Cleanup. [151] Windows 10 was available in 190   countries and 111 languages upon its launch, and as part of efforts to "re-engage" with users in China, Microsoft also announced that it would partner with Qihoo and Tencent to help promote and distribute Windows   10 in China, and that Chinese PC maker Lenovo would provide assistance at its service centers and retail outlets for helping users upgrade to Windows   10. [152] [153] [154] At retail, Windows 10 is priced similarly to editions of Windows 8. 1, with U. S. prices set at $ 119 and $199 for Windows 10   Home and Pro respectively. A Windows 10 Pro Pack license allows upgrades from Windows 10 Home to Windows 10 Pro. [155] [156] Retail copies only ship on USB flash drive media, however, System builder copies still shipped as DVD-ROM media. [157] New devices shipping with Windows   10 were also released during the operating system's launch window. [158] Windows RT devices cannot be upgraded to Windows   10. [150] [159] Free upgrade offer [ edit] During its first year of availability (ended on July 29, 2016), [160] upgrade licenses for Windows   10 could be obtained at no charge for devices with a genuine license for an eligible edition of Windows   7 or   8. [156] [161] [162] This offer did not apply to Enterprise editions, as customers under an active Software Assurance (SA)   contract with upgrade rights are entitled to obtain Windows 10 Enterprise under their existing terms. All users running non-genuine copies of Windows, and those without an existing Windows   7 or   8 license, were ineligible for this promotion; although upgrades from a non-genuine version were possible, they result in a non-genuine copy of   10. [135] [152] [162] [163] [164] On the general availability build of Windows   10 Version 1507, to activate and generate the "digital entitlement" for Windows   10, the operating system must have first been installed as an in-place upgrade. During the free upgrade, a file is created in the background and the system's motherboard details are registered with a Microsoft Product Activation server. Once installed, the operating system can be reinstalled on that particular system via normal means without a product key, and the system's license will automatically be detected via online activation - in essence, the Microsoft Product Activation Server will remember the system's motherboard and give it the green light for product re-activation. [149] [165] [166] Due to installation issues with Upgrade Only installs, in November 2015, Windows 10 Version 1511 was released with additional activation mechanisms. This build treated Windows   7 and Windows   8/8. 1 product keys as Windows   10 Product Keys, meaning they could be entered during installation to activate the free license, without the need to upgrade first to "activate" the hardware with Microsoft's activation servers. [167] For major Original Equipment Manufacturers (OEMs), Windows 8/8. 1 and Windows 10 OEM Product Keys are embedded in the firmware of the motherboard and if the correct edition of Windows 10 is present on the installation media, they are automatically inputted during installation. Since the release of Windows 10 version 1709, Microsoft decided to release multi-edition installation media, to alleviate installation and product activation issues users experienced due to accidentally installing the wrong Edition of Windows 10. Despite the 1-year free upgrade offer having long expired, all activation mechanisms involving Windows 7 and Windows 8 keys still work with all subsequent builds of Windows 10, even Windows 7 and Windows 8/8. 1 product keys that have never been used for a previous Windows 10 installation. The Windows Insider Preview version of Windows   10 automatically updated itself to the generally released version as part of the version progression and continues to be updated to new beta builds, as it had throughout the testing process. Microsoft explicitly stated that Windows Insider was not a valid upgrade path for those running a version of Windows that is ineligible for the upgrade offer; although, if it was not installed with a license carried over from an in-place upgrade to 10 Insider Preview from Windows   7 or   8, the Insider Preview does remain activated as long as the user does not exit the Windows Insider program. [135] [136] The offer was promoted and delivered via the "Get Windows   10" application ("GWX"), which was automatically installed via Windows Update ahead of Windows 10's release, and activated on systems deemed eligible for the upgrade offer. Via a notification area icon, users could access an application that advertised Windows   10 and the free upgrade offer, check device compatibility, and "reserve" an automatic download of the operating system upon its release. [168] [169] On July 28, a pre-download process began in which Windows   10 installation files were downloaded to some computers that had reserved it. Microsoft said that those who reserved Windows   10 would be able to install it through GWX in a phased rollout process. The operating system could alternatively be downloaded at any time using a separate "Media Creation Tool" setup program (similar to Windows   8's setup program), that allows for the creation of DVD or USB installation media. [148] [158] [170] [171] Microsoft announced in May 2016 that the free upgrade offer would be extended to users of assistive technologies; however, Microsoft did not implement any means of certifying eligibility for this offer, which some outlets thereby promoted as being a loophole to fraudulently obtain a free Windows 10 upgrade. Microsoft said that the loophole is not intended to be used in this manner. [172] [173] [174] In November 2017, Microsoft stated that this program would end December 31, 2017. [175] Licensing [ edit] During upgrades, Windows   10 licenses are not tied directly to a product key. Instead, the license status of the system's current installation of Windows is migrated, and a "Digital license" (also known as "Digital entitlement" in version 1511 or earlier) is generated during the activation process, which is bound to the hardware information collected during the process. If Windows   10 is reinstalled cleanly and there have not been any significant hardware changes since installation (such as a motherboard change), the online activation process will automatically recognize the system's digital entitlement if no product key is entered during installations. However, unique product keys are still distributed within retail copies of Windows   10. As with previous non-volume-licensed versions of Windows, significant hardware changes will invalidate the digital entitlement, and require Windows to be re-activated. [149] [165] Updates and support [ edit] Unlike previous versions of Windows, Windows Update does not allow the selective installation of updates, and all updates (including patches, feature updates, and driver software) are downloaded and installed automatically. Users can only choose whether their system will reboot automatically to install updates when the system is inactive, or be notified to schedule a reboot. [176] [177] If a wireless network is designated as "Metered"—a function which automatically reduces the operating system's background network activity to conserve limits on Internet usage, most updates are not downloaded until the device is connected to a non-metered network. Redstone 2 allows wired ( Ethernet) networks to be designated as metered, but Windows may still download certain updates while connected to a metered network. [178] [179] Updates can cause compatibility or other problems; a Microsoft troubleshooter program allows bad updates to be uninstalled. [180] [181] Windows Update can also use a peer to peer system for distributing updates; by default, users' bandwidth is used to distribute previously downloaded updates to other users, in combination with Microsoft servers. Users can instead choose to only use peer-to-peer updates within their local area network. [182] The original RTM release of Windows   10 ("Windows   10, released in July 2015") receives mainstream support for five years after its original release, followed by five years of extended support, but this is subject to conditions. Microsoft's support lifecycle policy for the operating system notes that "Updates are cumulative, with each update built upon all of the updates that preceded it", that "a device needs to install the latest update to remain supported", and that a device's ability to receive future updates will depend on hardware compatibility, driver availability, and whether the device is within the OEM's "support period"‍—‌a new aspect not accounted for in lifecycle policies for previous versions. [183] [162] [184] [185] This policy was first invoked in 2017 to block Intel Clover Trail devices from receiving the Creators Update, as Microsoft asserts that future updates "require additional hardware support to provide the best possible experience", and that Intel no longer provided support or drivers for the platform. Microsoft stated that these devices would no longer receive feature updates, but would still receive security updates through January 2023. [186] Feature updates [ edit] Windows 10 is often described by Microsoft as being a "service", as it receives regular feature updates that contain new features and other updates and fixes. [162] [187] [188] [189] In April 2017, Microsoft stated that in the future, these updates would be released twice a year every March and September. [190] Mainstream builds of Windows 10 are labeled " YYMM ", with YY representing the two-digit year and MM representing the month of release. For example, version 1809 was released in September (the ninth month) of 2018. The pace at which feature updates are received by devices is dependent on which release channel is used. The default branch for all users of Windows   10 Home and Pro is "Semi-Annual Channel (Targeted)" (formerly "Current Branch", or "CB"), [189] which receives stable builds after they are publicly released by Microsoft. Each build of Windows 10 is supported for 18 months after its original release. [189] In enterprise environments, Microsoft officially intends that this branch is used for "targeted" deployments of newly-released stable versions so that they can be evaluated and tested on a limited number of devices before a wider deployment. Once a stable build is certified by Microsoft and its partners as being suitable for broad deployment, the build is then released on the "Semi-Annual Channel" (formerly "Current Branch for Business", or "CBB"), which is supported by the Pro and Enterprise editions of Windows 10. [189] [177] [191] Semi-Annual Channel receives stable builds on a four-month delay from their release on the Targeted channel, [189] Administrators can also use the "Windows Update for Business" system, as well as existing tools such as WSUS and System Center Configuration Manager, to organize structured deployments of feature updates across their networks. [189] [177] The Windows Insider branches receive unstable builds as they are released; it is divided into two channels, "Fast" (which receives new builds immediately after their release), and "Slow" (whose releases are slightly delayed from their "Fast" release). [189] Enterprise licensees may use the Windows 10 Enterprise LTSC (formerly LTSB) edition, where "LTSC" stands for "long-term servicing channel", which only receive quality of life updates (i. e. security patches), and has a full, 10-year support lifecycle for each build. [189] [191] This edition is designed for "special-purpose devices" that perform a fixed function (such as automated teller machines and medical equipment). For this reason, it excludes Cortana, Microsoft Store, and all bundled Universal Windows Platform apps (including but not limited to Microsoft Edge, hence these builds ship only with Internet Explorer as browser). [192] [193] [189] [162] [194] [195] Microsoft director Stella Chernyak explained that "we have businesses [that] may have mission-critical environments where we respect the fact they want to test and stabilize the environment for a long time. " [196] Three LTSC builds have been released, correlating with the 1507, 1607, and 1809 versions of Windows 10, respectively. [197] [198] In July 2017, Microsoft announced changes in the terminology for Windows branches, as part of its effort to unify the update cadence with that of Office 365 ProPlus and Windows Server 2016. [199] [189] The branch system now defines two paces of upgrade deployment in enterprise environments, "targeted" initial deployment of a new version on selected systems immediately after its stable release for final testing, and "broad" deployment afterwards. Hence, "Current Branch" is now known as "Semi-Annual Channel (Targeted)", and "Current Branch for Business" for broad deployment is now referred to as "Semi-Annual Channel". [200] [189] In February 2019, Microsoft announced changes again in delivering updates in beginning the next feature update: a single SAC will be released and SAC-T will be retired, and users are no longer able to switch to different channels. Instead, these updates can be deferred from 30, 60 or 90 days, or depending how the device was configured to deferred the updates. [201] In April 2019, it was announced that, in addition, feature updates will no longer be automatically pushed to users. [202] Feature updates prior to version 1909 are distributed solely as an in-place upgrade installation, requiring the download of a complete operating system package (approximately 3. 5 GB in size for 64-bit systems). Unlike previous builds, version 1909 is designed primarily as an update rollup version of 1903, focusing primarily on minor feature additions and enhancements. For upgrades to 1909 from 1903, a new delivery method is used where its changes were delivered as part of the monthly cumulative update, but are left in a dormant state until the 1909 update "enablement" patch is installed. The full upgrade process is still used for those using builds prior to 1903. [203] [204] The following table collects current status of the aforementioned updating and support of different branches of Windows 10: Windows 10 support and update branches [162] [205] [206] [207] Update branch Microsoft internal rings (more detail here) Alpha software Windows Insider Preview Branch (WIPB) Beta software Semi-Annual Channel (formerly CB) "End user" Long-term Servicing channel (formerly LTSB) " Mission critical " Edition Home Pro Education Enterprise Enterprise LTSC Critical updates Security patches and stability updates Continuous Continuous as made available (choice of slow, fast, or release preview ring) Automatic User can defer updates indefinitely Feature upgrades Non-critical functionality and feature updates Automatic or defer Only through LTSC in-place upgrades Feature upgrades cadence Continuous as released Continuous, deferrable for 12 months at a time; once a deferral period is past, no further deferrals possible until latest updates are installed LTSC releases are stable 'snapshots' of SAC Upgrade support Continuous updating, features come and go silently with new builds Continuous updating or in-place upgrade to supported LTSC builds In-place upgrade support for the three most recent LTSC builds Update support Only the latest build is supported 10 years (or until future builds require hardware support the old device doesn't have or ~4 months after a missed cumulative update made into SAC. ) [183] 10 years (or ~6 months from deferring build upgrade or until future builds require hardware support the old device doesn't have. ) 5 years mainstream + 5 years extended Update methods Windows Update Windows Update for Business Windows Server Update Services Windows Update for Business Windows Server Update Services Version 1511 (November Update) [ edit] The second stable build of Windows   10 is called version 1511. Its build number is 10586. It was codenamed " Threshold 2 " ( TH2) during development. This version is installed by the November Update, which began to be distributed via Windows Update on November 12, 2015. It contains various improvements to the operating system, its user interface, bundled services, as well as the introduction of Skype-based universal messaging apps, and the Windows Store for Business and Windows Update for Business features. [208] [209] [210] [211] On November 21, 2015, the November Update was temporarily pulled from public distribution. [212] [213] The upgrade was re-instated on November 24, 2015, with Microsoft stating that the removal was due to a bug that caused privacy and data collection settings to be reset to defaults when installing the upgrade. [214] Version 1607 (Anniversary Update) [ edit] The third stable build of Windows 10 is called version 1607. It was codenamed " Redstone 1 " ( RS1) during development. This version is installed by the Anniversary Update, which was released on August 2, 2016, a little over one year after the first stable release of Windows 10. [215] [216] [217] [218] Codename "Redstone" was originally thought to have been set aside for two feature updates. While both were originally to be released in 2016, the second was moved into 2017 so that it would be released in concert with that year's wave of Microsoft first-party devices. [219] [220] [216] The Anniversary Update introduces new features such as the Windows Ink platform, which eases the ability to add stylus input support to Universal Windows Platform apps and provides a new "Ink Workspace" area with links to pen-oriented apps and features, [221] [216] enhancements to Cortana's proactive functionality, [222] a dark user interface theme mode, a new version of Skype designed to work with the Universal Windows Platform, improvements to Universal Windows Platform intended for video games, [215] and offline scanning using Windows Defender. [223] Redstone also supports Windows Subsystem for Linux, a new component that provides an environment for running Linux -compatible binary software in an Ubuntu -based user mode environment. [224] On new installations of Windows 10 on systems with secure boot enabled, all kernel mode drivers issued after July 29, 2015, must be digitally signed with an Extended Validation Certificate issued by Microsoft. [225] This version is the basis for "LTSB 2016", the first upgrade to the LTSB since Windows 10's release. The first LTSB release, based on RTM (version 1507), has been retroactively named "LTSB 2015". Version 1703 (Creators Update) [ edit] The fourth stable build of Windows 10 is called version 1703. It was codenamed " Redstone 2 " ( RS2) during development. This version is installed by the Creators Update, which Microsoft announced on October 26, 2016. [226] [227] Version 1703 was released on April 11, 2017 for general availability, [228] [229] and on April 5, 2017 for manual installation via Windows 10 Upgrade Assistant and Media Creation Tool tools. [230] This update primarily focuses on content creation, productivity, and gaming features—with a particular focus on virtual and augmented reality (including HoloLens and virtual reality headsets) and on aiding the generation of three-dimensional content. It supports a new virtual reality workspace designed for use with headsets; Microsoft announced that several OEMs planned to release VR headsets designed for use with the Creators Update. [229] [228] [231] Controls for the Game Bar and Game DVR feature have moved to the Settings app, while a new "Game Mode" option allows resources to be prioritized towards games. [232] Integration with Microsoft acquisition Mixer (formerly Beam) [233] was added for live streaming. [232] The themes manager moved to Settings app, and custom accent colors are now possible. [232] The new app Paint 3D allows users to produce artwork using 3D models; the app is designed to make 3D creation more accessible to mainstream users. [234] Windows 10's privacy settings have more detailed explanations of data that the operating system may collect. Additionally, the "enhanced" level of telemetry collection was removed. [232] Windows Update notifications may now be "snoozed" for a period of time, the "active hours" during which Windows will not try to install updates may now extend up to 18 hours in length, and updates may be paused for up to seven days. [232] Windows Defender has been replaced by the universal app Windows Defender Security Center. [232] Devices may optionally be configured to prevent use of software from outside of Microsoft Store, or warn before installation of apps from outside of Microsoft Store. [130] "Dynamic Lock" allows a device to automatically lock if it is outside of the proximity of a designated Bluetooth device, such as a smartphone. [235] A "Night Light" feature was added, which allows the user to change the color temperature of the display to the red part of the spectrum at specific times of day (similarly to the third-party software). [236] Version 1709 (Fall Creators Update) [ edit] The fifth stable build of Windows 10 is called version 1709. It was codenamed " Redstone 3 " ( RS3) during development. This version is installed by the Fall Creators Update, which was released on October 17, 2017. [237] [238] [239] Version 1709 introduces a new feature known as "My People", where shortcuts to "important" contacts can be displayed on the taskbar. Notifications involving these contacts appear above their respective pictures, and users can communicate with the contact via either Skype, e-mail, or text messaging (integrating with Android and Windows 10 Mobile devices). Support for additional services, including Xbox, Skype for Business, and third-party integration, are to be added in the future. Files can also be dragged directly to the contact's picture to share them. [240] My People was originally announced for Creators Update, but was ultimately held over to the next release, [241] [242] and made its first public appearance in Build 16184 in late April 2017. [238] A new "Files-on-Demand" feature for OneDrive serves as a partial replacement for the previous "placeholders" function. [243] It also introduces a new security feature known as "controlled folder access", which can restrict the applications allowed to access specific folders. This feature is designed mainly to defend against file-encrypting ransomware. [244] Version 1803 (April 2018 Update) [ edit] The sixth stable build of Windows 10 is called version 1803. It was codenamed " Redstone 4 " ( RS4) during development. This version is installed by the April 2018 Update, which was released as a manual download on April 30, 2018, with a broad rollout coming on May 8, 2018. [245] [246] This update was originally meant to be released on April 10 but was delayed due to a bug which could "increase chances of a Blue Screen of Death (BSOD)". [247] The most significant feature of this build is Timeline, which is displayed within Task View. It allows users to view a list of recently-used documents and websites from supported applications ("activities"). When users consent to Microsoft data collection via Microsoft Graph, activities can also be synchronized from supported Android and iOS devices. [248] [249] [250] [243] Version 1809 (October 2018 Update) [ edit] The seventh stable build of Windows 10 is called version 1809. It was codenamed " Redstone 5 " ( RS5) during development. This version is installed by the October 2018 Update, which was released on October 2, 2018. [251] Highlighted features on this build include updates to the clipboard function (including support for clipboard history and syncing with other devices), SwiftKey virtual keyboard, Snip & Sketch, and File Explorer supporting the dark color scheme mode. [252] On October 6, 2018, the build was pulled by Microsoft following isolated reports of the update process deleting files from user directories. [253] It was re-released to Windows Insider channel on October 9, with Microsoft citing a bug in OneDrive's Known Folder Redirection function as the culprit. [254] [255] Microsoft resumed the rollout of 1809 on November 13, 2018 for a small percentage of users. [256] [257] Version 1903 (May 2019 Update) [ edit] The eighth stable build of Windows 10, version 1903, was released for general availability on May 21, 2019 after being on the Insider Release Preview branch since April 8, 2019. Due to new practices introduced after the problems affecting the 1809 update, Microsoft is using an intentionally slower Windows Update rollout process. [258] [259] [260] New features in the update include a redesigned search tool—separated from Cortana and oriented towards textual queries, a new "Light" theme (set as default on Windows 10 Home) using a white-colored taskbar with dark icons, the addition of symbols and kaomoji to the emoji input menu, the ability to "pause" system updates, automated "Recommended troubleshooting", integration with Google Chrome on Timeline via an extension, support for SMS-based authentication on accounts linked to Microsoft accounts, and the ability to run Windows desktop applications within the Windows Mixed Reality environment (previously restricted to universal apps and SteamVR only). A new feature on Pro and Enterprise known as Windows Sandbox allows users to run applications within a secured Hyper-V environment. [261] [262] A revamped version of Game Bar was released alongside 1903, which redesigns it into a larger overlay with a performance display, Xbox friends list and social functionality, and audio and streaming settings. [263] Features in development [ edit] In May 2017, Microsoft unveiled Fluent Design System (previously codenamed "Project Neon"), a revamp of Microsoft Design Language 2 that will include guidelines for the designs and interactions used within software designed for all Windows 10 devices and platforms. The new design language will include the more prominent use of motion, depth, and translucency effects. Microsoft stated that the implementation of this design language would be performed over time, and it had already started to implement elements of it in Creators Update and Fall Creators Update. [264] On December 7, 2016, Microsoft announced that as part of a partnership with Qualcomm, it planned to introduce support for running Win32 software on ARM architecture with a 32-bit x86 processor emulator, in 2017. Terry Myerson stated that this move would enable the production of Qualcomm Snapdragon -based Windows devices with cellular connectivity and improved power efficiency over Intel-compatible devices, and still capable of running the majority of existing Windows software (unlike the previous Windows RT, which was restricted to Windows Store apps). Microsoft is initially targeting this project towards laptops. [265] Microsoft launched the branding Always Connected PCs in December 2017 to market Windows 10 devices with cellular connectivity, which included two ARM-based 2-in-1 laptops from Asus and HP featuring the Snapdragon 835 system-on-chip, and the announcement of a partnership between AMD and Qualcomm to integrate its Snapdragon X16 gigabit LTE modem with AMD's Ryzen Mobile platform. [266] [267] In August 2019, Microsoft began testing changes to its handling of the user interface on convertible devices—downplaying the existing "Tablet Mode" option in favor of presenting the normal desktop with optimizations for touch when a keyboard is not present, such as increasing the space between taskbar buttons and displaying the virtual keyboard when text fields are selected. [268] System requirements [ edit] Hardware requirements for Windows 10 [161] [269] Component Minimum Recommended Processor 1   GHz clock rate IA-32 or x86-64 architecture with support for PAE, NX and SSE2 x86-64 CPUs must also support CMPXCHG16B, PrefetchW and LAHF/SAHF instructions. As of the May 2019 update, the minimum disk space requirement has been increased to 32 GB. In addition, on new installations, Windows permanently reserves up to 7 GB of disk space in order to ensure proper installation of future feature updates. [270] [271] The 64-bit versions require a CPU that supports certain instructions. [272] Devices with low storage capacity must provide a USB flash drive or SD card with sufficient storage for temporary files during upgrades. [273] Some pre-built devices may be described as "certified" by Microsoft. Certified tablets must include Power, Volume up, and Volume down keys; ⊞ Win and Rotation lock keys are no longer required. [274] As with Windows 8, all certified devices must ship with UEFI Secure Boot enabled by default. Unlike Windows 8, OEMs are no longer required to make Secure Boot settings user-configurable, meaning that devices may optionally be locked to run only Microsoft-signed operating systems. [275] A supported infrared-illuminated camera is required for Windows Hello face authentication, and a supported fingerprint reader is required for Windows Hello fingerprint authentication. [161] Device Guard requires a UEFI system with no third-party certificates loaded, and CPU virtualization extensions (including SLAT and IOMMU) enabled in firmware. Beginning with Intel Kaby Lake and AMD Bristol Ridge, Windows 10 is the only version of Windows that Microsoft will officially support on newer CPU microarchitectures. [276] [277] Terry Myerson stated that Microsoft did not want to make further investments in optimizing older versions of Windows and associated software for newer generations of processors. [278] [279] These policies were criticized by the media, who especially noted that Microsoft was refusing to support newer hardware (particularly Intel's Skylake CPUs, which was also originally targeted by the new policy with a premature end of support that was ultimately retracted) [280] [281] on Windows 8. 1, a version of Windows that was still in mainstream support until January 2018. [282] [283] In addition, an enthusiast-created modification was released that disabled the check and allowed Windows 8. 1 and earlier to continue to work on the platform. [284] Windows 10 Creators Update and later does not support Intel Clover Trail system-on-chips, per Microsoft's stated policy of only providing updates for devices during their OEM support period. [186] [285] Reception [ edit] Critics characterized the initial release of Windows 10 in July 2015 as being rushed, citing the incomplete state of some of the operating system's bundled software (such as the Edge web browser), as well as the stability of the operating system itself on launch. [286] [287] [288] However, TechRadar felt that Windows   10 would be "the new Windows   7", citing the operating system's more familiar user interface, improvements to bundled apps, performance improvements, a "rock solid" search system, and the Settings app being more full-featured than its equivalents on   8 and   8. The Microsoft Edge web browser was praised for its performance, although it was not in a feature-complete state at launch. While considering them a "great idea in principle", concerns were shown for Microsoft's focus on the universal app ecosystem, noting that It's by no means certain that developers are going to flock to Windows   10 from iOS and Android simply because they can convert their apps easily. It may well become a no-brainer for them, but at the moment a conscious decision is still required. [287] Engadget was similarly positive, noting that the upgrade process was painless and that Windows   10's user interface had balanced aspects of Windows   8 with those of previous versions with a more mature aesthetic. Cortana's always-on voice detection was considered to be its "true strength", also citing its query capabilities and personalization features, but noting that it was not as pre-emptive as Google Now. Windows   10's stock applications were praised for being improved over their Windows 8 counterparts, and for supporting windowed modes. The Xbox app was also praised for its Xbox One streaming functionality, although recommending its use over a wired network due to inconsistent quality over Wi-Fi. In conclusion, it was argued that "Windows   10 delivers the most refined desktop experience ever from Microsoft, and yet it's so much more than that. It's also a decent tablet OS, and it's ready for a world filled with hybrid devices. And, barring another baffling screwup, it looks like a significant step forward for mobile. Heck, it makes the Xbox One a more useful machine. " [289] Ars Technica panned the new Tablet mode interface for removing the charms and app switching, making the Start button harder to use by requiring users to reach for the button on the bottom-left rather than at the center of the screen when swiping with a thumb, and for making application switching less instantaneous through the use of Task View. Microsoft Edge was praised for being "tremendously promising", and "a much better browser than Internet Explorer ever was", but criticized it for its lack of functionality on-launch. In conclusion, contrasting Windows   8 as being a "reliable" platform albeit consisting of unfinished concepts, Windows   10 was considered "the best Windows yet" and was praised for having a better overall concept in its ability to be "comfortable and effective" across a wide array of form factors, but that it was buggier than previous versions of Windows were on-launch. [286] ExtremeTech felt that Windows   10 restricted the choices of users, citing its more opaque setting menus, forcing users to give up bandwidth for the peer-to-peer distribution of updates, and for taking away user control of specific functions, such as updates, explaining that "it feels, once again, as if Microsoft has taken the seed of a good idea, like providing users with security updates automatically, and shoved the throttle to maximum. " [290] Critics have noted that Windows   10 heavily emphasizes freemium services, and contains various advertising facilities. Some outlets have considered these to be a hidden "cost" of the free upgrade offer. [291] [292] [293] Examples of these have included microtransactions in bundled games such as Microsoft Solitaire Collection, [294] [291] [295] [296] default settings that display promotions of "suggested" apps in Start menu and "tips" on the lock screen that may contain advertising, [292] [293] ads displayed in File Explorer for Office 365 subscriptions on Creators' Update, [293] and various advertising notifications displayed by default which promote Microsoft Edge when it is not set as default web browser (including in a September 2018 build, nag pop-ups displayed to interrupt the installation process of competitors). [297] [298] [ edit] Windows PC market share (of Windows) statistics Windows 10 65. 37% Windows 7 26. 82% Windows 8. 1 4. 87% Windows XP 1. 54% Windows 8 1. 29% Windows Vista 0. 31% Other 0. 06% "Desktop Windows Version Market Share Worldwide" according to StatCounter for December 2019. [299] Note, StatCounter tracks Windows vs. macOS, Linux etc. separately, and this statistic is only thereof Windows share. Up to August 2016, Windows 10 usage was increasing, with it then plateauing, [300] while eventually in 2018, it became more popular than Windows 7 [301] [302] (though in 2019 Windows 7 is still more used in some countries in Asia and Africa). As of March 2019, the operating system is running on more than 800 million devices. [303] Twenty-four hours after it was released, Microsoft announced that more than 14   million devices were running Windows   10. [304] On August 26, Microsoft said more than 75   million devices were running Windows   10, in 192   countries, and on more than 90, 000 unique PC or tablet models. [305] According to Terry Myerson, there were more than 110   million devices running Windows   10 as of October 6, 2015. [306] On January 4, 2016, Microsoft reported that Windows   10 had been activated on more than 200   million devices since the operating system's launch in July 2015. [307] [308] According to StatCounter, Windows 10 overtook Windows 8. 1 in December 2015. [309] [310] Iceland was the first country where Windows 10 was ranked first (not only on the desktop, but across all platforms), [311] with several larger European countries following. For one week, late in November 2016, Windows 10 overtook first rank from Windows 7 in the United States, before losing it again. [312] By February 2017, Windows 10 was losing market share to Windows 7. [313] In middle of January 2018, Windows 10 had a slightly higher global market share than Windows 7, [301] with it noticeably more popular on weekends, [314] while popularity varies widely by region, e. g. Windows 10 was then still behind in Africa [315] and far ahead in some other regions e. Oceania. [316] Update system changes [ edit] Windows 10 Home is permanently set to download all updates automatically, including cumulative updates, security patches, and drivers, and users cannot individually select updates to install or not. [317] Microsoft offers a diagnostic tool that can be used to hide updates and prevent them from being reinstalled, but only after they had been already installed, then uninstalled without rebooting the system. [318] [319] Tom Warren of The Verge felt that, given web browsers such as Google Chrome had already adopted such an automatic update system, such a requirement would help to keep all Windows   10 devices secure, and felt that "if you're used to family members calling you for technical support because they've failed to upgrade to the latest Windows service pack or some malware disabled Windows Update then those days will hopefully be over. " [320] Concerns were raised that due to these changes, users would be unable to skip the automatic installation of updates that are faulty or cause issues with certain system configurations—although build upgrades will also be subject to public beta testing via Windows Insider program. [318] [320] There were also concerns that the forced installation of driver updates through Windows Update, where they were previously designated as "optional", could cause conflicts with drivers that were installed independently of Windows Update. An example of such a situation occurred just prior to the general release of the operating system, when an Nvidia graphics card driver that was automatically pushed to Windows   10 users via Windows Update caused issues that prevented the use of certain functions, or prevented their system from booting at all. [318] Criticism was also directed towards Microsoft's decision to no longer provide specific details on the contents of cumulative updates for Windows 10. [321] On February 9, 2016, Microsoft retracted this decision and began to provide release notes for cumulative updates on the Windows website. [322] Some users reported that during the installation of the November upgrade, some applications (particularly utility programs such as CPU-Z and Speccy) were automatically uninstalled during the upgrade process, and some default programs were reset to Microsoft-specified defaults (such as Photos app, and Microsoft Edge for PDF viewing), both without warning. [323] [324] Further issues were discovered upon the launch of the Anniversary Update ("Redstone"), including a bug that caused some devices to freeze (but addressed by cumulative update KB3176938, released on August 31, 2016), [325] [326] and that fundamental changes to how Windows handles webcams had caused many to stop working. [327] In June 2017, a Redstone 3 Insider build (which is known as rs_IoT on Mobile) was accidentally released to Insider as well as non-Insider users on all Windows 10 PCs and Mobile, but the update was retracted, with Microsoft apologizing and releasing a note on their Windows Insider Program blog describing how to prevent the build from being installed on their device. [328] According to Dona Sarkar, "because an inadvertent deployment to the engineering system that controls which builds/which rings to push out to insiders. " [329] A Gartner analyst felt that Windows 10 Pro was becoming increasingly inappropriate for use in enterprise environments due to support policy changes by Microsoft, including consumer-oriented upgrade lifecycle length, and only offering extended support for individual builds to Enterprise and Education editions of Windows 10. [330] Critics have acknowledged that Microsoft's update and testing practices had been affecting the overall quality of Windows 10. In particular, it was pointed out that Microsoft's internal testing departments had been prominently affected by a major round of layoffs undertaken by the company in 2014. Microsoft relies primarily on user testing and bug reports via the Windows Insider program (which may not always be of sufficient quality to identify a bug), as well as correspondence with OEMs and other stakeholders. In the wake of the known folder redirection data loss bug in the version 1809, it was pointed out that bug reports describing the issue had been present on the Feedback Hub app for several months prior to the public release. Following the incident, Microsoft updated Feedback Hub so that users may specify the severity of a particular bug report. When announcing the resumption of 1809's rollout, Microsoft stated that it planned to be more transparent in its handling of update quality in the future, through a series of blog posts that will detail its testing process and the planned development of a "dashboard" that will indicate the rollout progress of future updates. [331] [332] [333] [333] [257] [334] Distribution practices [ edit] Microsoft was criticized for the tactics that it used to promote its free upgrade campaign for Windows 10, including adware -like behaviours, [335] using deceptive user interfaces to coax users into installing the operating system, [336] [337] [338] [339] downloading installation files without user consent, [340] [335] and making it difficult for users to suppress the advertising and notifications if they did not wish to upgrade to 10. [340] [335] [341] The upgrade offer was marketed and initiated using the "Get Windows 10" (GWX) application, which was first downloaded and installed via Windows Update in March 2015. [336] [339] Registry keys and group policies could be used to partially disable the GWX mechanism, but the installation of patches to the GWX software via Windows Update could reset these keys back to defaults, and thus reactivate the software. [340] [335] [341] [342] [341] [337] Third-party programs were also created to assist users in applying measures to disable GWX. [343] In September 2015, it was reported that Microsoft was triggering automatic downloads of the Windows 10 installation files on all compatible Windows 7 or 8. 1 computers configured to automatically download and install updates, regardless of whether or not they had specifically requested the upgrade. Microsoft officially confirmed the change, claiming it was "an industry practice that reduces the time for installation and ensures device readiness. " This move was criticized by users who have data caps or devices with low storage capacity, as resources were consumed by the automatic downloads of up to 6 GB of data. Other critics argued that Microsoft should not have triggered any downloading of Windows 10 installation files without user consent. [335] [340] [344] In October 2015, Windows 10 began to appear as an "Optional" update in the Windows Update interface, but pre-selected for installation on some systems. A Microsoft spokesperson said that this was a mistake, and that the download would no longer be pre-selected by default. [338] However, on October 29, 2015, Microsoft announced that it planned to classify Windows 10 as a "recommended" update in the Windows Update interface some time in 2016, which will cause an automatic download of installation files and a one-time prompt with a choice to install to appear. [345] [346] In December 2015, it was reported that a new advertising dialog had begun to appear, only containing "Upgrade now" and "Upgrade tonight" buttons, and no obvious method to decline installation besides the close button. [337] In March 2016, some users also alleged that their Windows 7 and 8. 1 devices had automatically begun upgrading to 10 without their consent. [347] In June 2016, the GWX dialog's behavior changed to make closing the window imply a consent to a scheduled upgrade. [348] [349] Despite this, an InfoWorld editor disputed the claims that upgrades had begun without any consent at all; testing showed that the upgrade to Windows 10 would only begin once the user accepts the end-user license agreement (EULA) presented by its installer, and that not doing so would eventually cause Windows Update to time out with an error, thus halting the installation attempt. It was concluded that these users may have unknowingly clicked the "Accept" prompt without full knowledge that this would begin the upgrade. [350] In December 2016, Microsoft chief marketing officer Chris Capossela admitted that the company had "gone too far", by using this tactic, stating that "we know we want people to be running Windows 10 from a security perspective, but finding the right balance where you're not stepping over the line of being too aggressive is something we tried and for a lot of the year I think we got it right. " [351] On January 21, 2016, Microsoft was sued in small claims court by a user whose computer, shortly after the release of the OS, had attempted to upgrade to Windows 10 without her consent. The upgrade failed, and her computer was left in a broken state thereafter, which disrupted the ability to run her travel agency. The court ruled in favor of the user and awarded her $10, 000 in damages, but Microsoft appealed. However, in May 2016, Microsoft dropped the appeal and chose to pay the damages. Shortly after the suit was reported on by the Seattle Times, Microsoft confirmed that it was updating the GWX software once again to add more explicit options for opting out of a free Windows 10 upgrade; [352] [353] [349] the final notification was a full-screen pop-up window notifying users of the impending end of the free upgrade offer, and contained "Remind me later", "Do not notify me again" and "Notify me three more times" options. [354] In March 2019, Microsoft announced that it would display notifications on Windows 7 devices informing users of the upcoming end of extended support for the platform, and direct users to a website urging them to upgrade to Windows 10 or purchase new hardware. This dialog will be similar to the previous Windows 10 upgrade prompts, but not explicitly mention Windows 10. [355] Privacy and data collection [ edit] Privacy advocates and other critics have expressed concern regarding Windows   10's privacy policies and its collection and use of customer data. [356] Under the default "Express" settings, Windows   10 is configured to send various information to Microsoft and other parties, including the collection of user contacts, calendar data, and "associated input data" to personalize "speech, typing, and inking input", typing and inking data to improve recognition, allowing apps to use a unique "advertising   ID" for analytics and advertising personalization (functionality introduced by Windows 8. 1) [357] and allow apps to request the user's location data and send this data to Microsoft and "trusted partners" to improve location detection (Windows   8 had similar settings, except that location data collection did not include "trusted partners" [290]). Users can opt out from most of this data collection, [290] [356] but telemetry data for error reporting and usage is also sent to Microsoft, and this cannot be disabled on non-Enterprise versions of Windows   10. [290] Microsoft's privacy policy states, however, that "Basic"-level telemetry data is anonymized and cannot be used to identify an individual user or device. [358] The use of Cortana also requires the collection of data "such as Your PC location, data from your calendar, the apps you use, data from your emails and text messages, who you call, your contacts and how often you interact with them on Your PC" to personalize its functionality. [356] [359] Rock Paper Shotgun writer Alec Meer argued that Microsoft's intent for this data collection lacked transparency, stating that "there is no world in which 45   pages of policy documents and opt-out settings split across 13   different settings screens and an external website constitutes 'real transparency'. " [356] Joel Hruska of ExtremeTech writes that "The company that brought us the ' Scroogled ' campaign now hoovers up your data in ways that would make Google jealous. " [290] However, it was also pointed out that the requirement for such vast usage of customer data had become a norm, citing the increased reliance on cloud computing and other forms of external processing, as well as similar data collection requirements for services on mobile devices such as Google Now and Siri. [356] [359] In August 2015, Russian politician Nikolai Levichev called for Windows   10 to be banned from use within the Russian government, as it sends user data to servers in the United States. The country had passed a federal law requiring all online services to store the data of Russian users on servers within the country by September 2016, or be blocked. [360] [361] [362] Writing for ZDNet, Ed Bott said that the lack of complaints by businesses about privacy in Windows   10 indicated "how utterly normal those privacy terms are in 2015. " [363] In a Computerworld editorial, Preston Gralla attempted [ clarification needed] to defend Microsoft by making the false claim [ why? ] that "the kind of information Windows   10 gathers is no different from what other operating systems gather. But Microsoft is held to a different standard than other companies". [364] The Microsoft Services agreement reads that the company's online services may automatically "download software updates or configuration changes, including those that prevent you from accessing the Services, playing counterfeit games, or using unauthorized hardware peripheral devices. " Critics interpreted this statement as implying that Microsoft would scan for and delete unlicensed software installed on devices running Windows   10. [365] However, others pointed out that this agreement was specifically for Microsoft online services such as Microsoft account, Office 365, Skype, as well as Xbox Live, and that the offending passage most likely referred to digital rights management on Xbox consoles and first-party games, and not plans to police pirated video games installed on Windows   10 PCs. [365] [366] Despite this, some torrent trackers announced plans to block Windows   10 users, also arguing that the operating system could send information to anti-piracy groups that are affiliated with Microsoft. [367] Writing about these allegations, Ed Bott of ZDNet compared Microsoft's privacy policy to Apple's and Google's and concluded that he "[didn't] see anything that looks remotely like Big Brother. " [363] Columnist Kim Komando argued that "Microsoft might in the future run scans and disable software or hardware it sees as a security threat, " consistent with the Windows   10 update policy. [368] In September 2019, Microsoft hid the option to create a local account during a fresh installation if the PC is connected to the internet. This move was criticized by users who did not want to use an online Microsoft account. Hard to imagine one year later those towers were gone. Programming the mind. Great interview.  Nice work Mark.  Wonderful interview with Adrian Gilbert. Windows on the World download full. I remember this like it happened yesterday. I'm still horrified. This was our generation's Pearl Harbor. Windows on the World, despite the fact that it takes place in the weeks following the 9/11 terrorist attack in New York, is a film that is urgently for our time. It is a hero's journey of a son trying to find his father in that grief-stricken landscape and the characters stand in for the millions of immigrants, legal and illegal, who contribute in their everyday lives, to the American landscape. The film seeks to counter the narrative that's all-too-prevalent in today's political and media landscape by telling a story set in America's biggest and most diverse city, at its darkest time. The script by playwright and novelist Robert Mailer Anderson (who also produced the film) is wise and completely engaging; he creates indelible characters who are ultimately inspiring and uplifting. Edward James Olmos gives what he considers to be the performance of a lifetime, and the rest of the cast is terrific as well-with a special shout-out to Glynn Turman. The direction, by Olmos's son Michael, is sure-handed, getting terrific performances from his cast, including his father, in this father-son story, and it's beautifully lensed. The music, including jazz and a title track written by Anderson, is pitch-perfect, supporting the story without getting in the way. This film should be seen by everybody-and I'm sure it will be in mainstream distribution soon, as this is a time when, although the major studios may have turned their backs on substance, terrific indie films like this one have many other possible venues. If you can't see it at a film festival, like I did, keep a keen eye out for it. Terrific and inspiring.

6,9 / 10 / Release date 2019 / Directed by Jay Roach / Bombshell is a movie starring Charlize Theron, Nicole Kidman, and Margot Robbie. A group of women take on Fox News head Roger Ailes and the toxic atmosphere he presided over at the network / / score 9601 vote.

The title of this video disgust me to the core 🙄! Like yall would go to the lowest level just to get more views 🤦🏻‍♀️. Margot Robbie is extremely stunning and hot af ! Gosh yall just being bitter 🌚🌚. Bombshells. And why it’s not enough December 23, 2019 Both Kayla and Jess are composites—characters meant to tell the stories of women who could not speak for themselves. Lionsgate The best scene of Bombshell, the based-on-a-true-story dramatization of sexual harassment at Fox News, is one that never really happened. In it, Kayla, a young and ambitious producer at the network, gets an opportunity that doubles as currency at Fox News: a private meeting with Roger Ailes, the chairman and CEO. Knowing that he has the power to make her career in journalism—less aware, at the time, that he also has the power to break it—Kayla sits on Ailes’s couch, thrilled. She tells Ailes about her career. He listens for a moment. And then he gives her an order: “Stand up and twirl for me. ” Kayla is confused. She is uncomfortable. But she does as she’s asked. She gives a quick spin, her mouth frozen in a tight smile, attempting to make light of the move. The camera focuses on her face. Ailes—his initial warmth growing colder as he issues commands—asks her to hike up the bottom of her dress. She resists. He asks again. Finally, she complies, as the interaction she had thought was a job interview congeals into something else. She pulls up the hem of her dress. Ailes, played by John Lithgow, breathes heavily. She pulls the dress up higher, her hands trembling, until her underwear is exposed. The scene is intimate. It is invasive. It is painful to watch. That’s in part because it is shot so unsparingly. But it is also because the assault Bombshell ’s camera depicts is not physically violent. The abuse here is psychological. Kayla, without realizing it, has walked into a battle for her dignity. The writer Jill Filipovic explained the scene’s power like this: “Reading about sexual harassment dulls it. Seeing it is a crucial reminder of how repulsive and destructive Ailes, and sexual harassers like he was alleged to be, can be. ” So it is notable, in that regard, that the woman in the scene is one of the characters in Bombshell who is not based on a specific person. Kayla Pospisil, played by Margot Robbie, is instead a composite figure—a woman woven from the stories of multiple real-life people. She is the product of a literature review, basically: Kayla’s experiences in the film are summaries of several of the allegations made about Ailes in sexual-harassment lawsuits that Fox News employees brought against the network. Her character is also informed by interviews Bombshell ’s filmmakers conducted with many of the women who made those claims. While nondisclosure agreements have kept many of those women publicly silent, Kayla, in a sense, gives them a voice. Kayla is one of three women at Bombshell ’s center; the other two are Megyn Kelly (Charlize Theron) and Gretchen Carlson (Nicole Kidman). Bombshell is a work of uncanniness. Starting with the makeup that transformed Theron into Kelly, the film’s pleasures and its indictments come in large part through its painstaking re-creations of real-life people. Kayla, though, suggests the limitations of the simulacrum. It is revealing that one of the main characters, in this film that has marketed itself as a retelling of the sexual-harassment story at Fox News, is a work of fiction. But Bombshell is primarily Kelly’s story. She is the one who is capable of breaking the movie’s fourth wall, speaking directly to the audience. She is the one whose arc, in the film, bends the most sharply. There is an inherent challenge in that arrangement: To tell the story of workplace sexual harassment through the experience of Megyn Kelly is … to tell the story of workplace sexual harassment through the experience of Megyn Kelly. It is to have a tale told by a narrator who is, if not fully unreliable, then deeply fraught. Read: Megyn Kelly’s original sin Bombshell nods to that tension. It features a brief clip of one of Kelly’s more infamous on-air moments: her glib insistence that “ Santa just is white. ” The film also features, along the way, assorted acknowledgments of the Fox News complicity machine—chief among them, representations of the many women at the network who had succeeded within its rigged system and who therefore had a vested interest in maintaining that system as it was. (If you are not a fan of Jeanine Pirro, the Fox News host who recently wrote a book titled Liars, Leakers, and Liberals: The Case Against the Anti-Trump Conspiracy, Bombshell provides several scenes that will leave you feeling fully vindicated. ) But the main way the film wrestles with the complications of its own story is by eliding them. Kelly may be the star of the show; Kayla, however, is its moral center. (Carlson—who was the first to come forward with allegations of sexual harassment against Ailes—is something of the side character in the trio. ) The scene between Kayla and Ailes is what roots the film as it explores the legal battle that led to Ailes’s ouster from the network. It is through Kayla that the horrors and humiliations of sexual harassment are brought to the film’s screen. “I’ve never filmed anything as excruciating, ” Bombshell ’s director, Jay Roach, said of that interaction. It’s understandable, in some ways, that the character doing that work in the film would be fictional. My colleague Conor Friedersdorf, writing after the publication of the report about an unnamed woman’s sexual experience with Aziz Ansari and the New Yorker story “Cat Person, ” argued that fiction can be functional. Invented stories, he suggested, could be the most efficient way to talk about the things so many people wanted to be talking about when it came to those stories: the gray areas of consent; sex that is bad not in a criminal sense, but in another way. The benefit of “Cat Person” was that those discussions could be had about people who did not exist. Fiction affords a kind of freedom. Read: ‘Cat Person’ and the impulse to undermine women’s fiction Nonfiction brings complications. Megyn Kelly, with her glib comments about Santa and blackface and “ thug mentality ”—with all the work she did to build up the network that has helped bring America so low—is a notably difficult vehicle for discussions of justice. But Kayla Pospisil is not. Kayla is no more and no less than what Bombshell tells us she is. She makes few demands, of her screenwriters or of her audience. She brings none of the baggage that comes with a real existence. In some ways, that’s a productive thing. Robbie’s performance is masterful, and Kayla’s lack of specificity makes her an apt stand-in for the many people at Fox News who are not part of the story Bombshell is telling. But Kayla, a figure informed by everyone and therefore by no one, also makes the movie smoother and easier than it might be. The character frees the film of the obligations that come with telling true stories about real people. That freedom, however, also allows a story about sexual harassment to wander, at times, into the realm of the fanciful. You can see this in another composite character in the film: Kayla’s best friend at the network, Jess Carr, played by Kate McKinnon. McKinnon has described her character as a “closet liberal and closet gay woman. ” Her presence allows Bombshell to point out that Fox News is a more complicated place than its broadcasts might make it seem. But McKinnon’s character allows Bombshell to do something else, as well: to serve up a scene in which Jess and Kayla are lying in Jess’s bed, ostensibly having slept together. Was the scene between these two composite characters making a point about the secret lives of women? Maybe. Would Laura Mulvey also have some things to say about it? Probably. Bombshell is rendered in the style of Vice and The Big Short (its screenwriter, Charles Randolph, also wrote the screenplay for the latter). Here, too, are wide-ranging tragedies expressed through an aesthetic that verges on cartoonish. The film—its pun of a title offers a hint at what’s to come—has a kaleidoscopic quality. It is primary-colored and stylized and dizzying. It is, like the cable-news network that is its subject and its setting, shiny and hectic. But Bombshell ’s message, for all that, is straightforward: All women, no matter their politics, deserve to work in environments that are respectful and safe. That is an important argument, and Kayla, ambitious and vulnerable and fictional, expresses it well. Kelly and Carlson, however, complicate it considerably. Those women, as real and historical figures, have contributed to the rise of a network that has often made a mockery of the very things Bombshell celebrates: collaboration, courage, justice. Fox News has made its reputation and its money by delighting in division—by insisting that some women are more deserving than others. That is the uncomfortable fact of this film. Kayla helps Bombshell elide it. What would the film have looked like had her character not been part of its universe—had Bombshell reckoned more directly with its real and deeply flawed heroines? When are they going to make a movie about Harvey Weinstein and ABC. I love this game. Ellen always makes it interesting!😂. Greetings again from the darkness. Movies based on true stories are increasingly popular these days. OK, not as popular as comic book films, but the appeal of tapping into 'truth-is-stranger-than-fiction" is a natural, as viewers bring a sense of familiarity to the characters and/or events. On the flipside, this familiarity can create challenges for the filmmakers and actors as they must meet viewer expectations or risk being waved off as a flop. When tackling the story of Fox News CEO Roger Ailes and the sexual harassment scandal of 2016, the folks associated with this project faced the added burden of an internationally reported story with faces and personalities recognized around the globe.
For the most part, director Jay Roach (TRUMBO, MEET THE PARENTS, AUSTIN POWERS) screenwriter Charles Randolph (Oscar winner THE BIG SHORT) and a very talented cast succeed in taking us behind the scenes of this unsettling story, so that we might better understand how 20 years of despicable behavior continued unabated. The film picks up in 2015 as the Presidential campaigns are underway. Megyn Kelly (a spot-on performance from Oscar winner Charlize Theron) breaks the 4th wall and takes us on a tour of the Fox offices - even pointing out Roger Ailes' private and secure sanctuary. We then see the memorable moment where Ms. Kelly publicly questioned candidate Donald Trump about his history with women. It was a moment that shook the network, and elevated Megyn Kelly to worldwide notoriety.
Early emphasis is on Gretchen Carlson (played by Oscar winner Nicole Kidman) and her declining role at the network as she is removed from the highly rated "Fox and Friends" and placed on her own show in an unappealing time slot. Although her professional skills are presented in a way that has her appearing a bit amateurish, Ms. Carlson makes the case that she was unceremoniously removed due to her not going along with Ailes' wishes behind closed doors. It's Gretchen Carlson's lawsuit against Ailes that kicks off the downfall of the network's leader. She was the one courageous enough to be first.
Margot Robbie plays Kayla Pospisill, an ambitious producer who initially works for Carlson, and then moves on to "The O'Reilly Factor. Kayla is a composite character written to represent many of the women who worked at the network. She is smart and working towards a shot at becoming an on-air personality. It's that ambition that results in her sitting in Ailes' office when he says "Stand up and give me a twirl." His request (evidently not an uncommon one) is followed by his reasoning. Television is a visual medium." It's Kayla's interaction that allows us a glimpse at the systemic sexual harassment that became commonplace in the office. The toxic environment was not isolated to Ailes. as shown here, and proven later.
John Lithgow perfectly captures the elderly Ailes, who suffers from multiple physical ailments - none of which affect his ego or demented nature. He never sees the evil of his ways, as he's been taking advantage of his power position for so long, the right comebacks and lead-ons have become second nature to him. What makes this even more frightening is that Ailes apparently used this harassment and manipulation as the first step in a form of mind control. to ensure the content of his network fit his ultra-conservative and closed-minded ideals. The message was clear: remain loyal to him or lose your career.
The ensemble cast is excellent, even if the leads dominate the story. Oscar winner Allison Janney portrays Ailes' attorney Susan Esrcih, Connie Brittain plays his supportive wife Beth Ailes, Malcom McDowell is Rupert Murdoch, and Kate McKinnon plays Kayla's co-worker (and more) Jess Carr, who is forced to keep her private life in her desk drawer. Other supporting roles are filled by Liv Hewson, Brigette Lundy-Paine, Rob Delaney, Mark Duplass, Stephen Root, Robin Weigert, Anne Ramsay, and Richard Kind. Some of the real life names and faces include: Bill O'Reilly, Rudy Giuliani, Chris Wallace, Greta Van Susteren, Neil Cavuto, Geraldo Rivera, and Jeanine Pirro.
"This place is crazy." I don't remember which character said it, but it could have been any of them. The politics of the network (and Ailes himself) are always hovering over every scene. What caused Fox News to become such a toxic work environment? Having a despicable leader doesn't seem like enough. Why were so many men treating it as a frat house, and so few women willing to speak up? The answer seems to be that these were talented and ambitious women who were determined not to lose what they had worked for. When one character states that women owe it to each other to speak up, it really brings into focus how much courage is required to do just that.
Showtime's multiple-episode "The Loudest Voice" with Russell Crowe as Roger Ailes and Naomi Watts as Gretchen Carlson was able to go into greater depth with the longer run time, but director Roach tells this from the women's viewpoint. Ms. Theron truly disappears into the role of Megyn Kelly, while Lithgow, Kidman and Robbie deliver in a way that we forget we are watching actors. Some of the best segments feature these women reacting in the moment. moments we hope are becoming extinct. By the way, I wonder how much a "Team Roger" t-shirt is going for these days - or if they can even give them away.
