Review: Jaya Nigam’s (Kangana Ranaut) life is steeped in domesticity – motherhood and a job at the railways – when somehow a passion she had laid to rest years back, catches up with her. At one time, the captain of the national kabaddi team, she now juggles life between her seven-year-old son, Adi (Yagya Bhasin), household chores and her humdrum job. And amidst all this, she barely manages time for herself even though her husband, Prashant (Jassie Gill) is supportive enough and they share a wonderful relationship. Moreover, Jaya is the all-out doting mother, extra cautious and always anxious. So when Adi stumbles upon the fact that she used to be a star player and wishes to see her play again, she decides to oblige, even if just to humour him for a short while. And although that's how it starts off, Jaya soon realises that her heart is set on regaining her lost glory and fulfilling a dream she left mid-way. But now saddled with all the domestic responsibilities, will it be an easy decision to make? And also, after a seven-year hiatus will she find a place in the team again, amongst a much younger and enthused team. Ashwini Iyer Tiwari creates a world set in the by-lanes of Bhopal that is soaking with small town milieu - a motif that has arguably become a tired template in Hindi movies now. But here, it is infused with a refreshing energy. The characters don't feel like caricatures, but are real and palpable. From Meenu (Richa Chadha), her best friend and a kabbadi coach to Jaya's mother (Neena Gupta) to even her team mate Nisha (Megha Burman) – each of these women are well fleshed out characters playing an intrinsic part in the narrative. As do Adi and Prashant. At one point in the film, to stress upon how much she wants to go back to kabaddi, Jaya says, “ Main kya kar sakti thi, aur main kya kar rahin hoon ”, as she holds back her tears and goes into the kitchen. In another scene she tells her husband that while she is expected to understand everyone’s needs, no one seems to understand hers. And when she speaks of the happiness that fills her when she looks at Adi and Prashant she also adds, " Par jab main khud ko dekhti hoon toh woh khushi nahin milti hain. " The narrative is filled with potent yet subtle moments like these that translates the eternal tussle between domestic responsibilities and fulfilling one’s dreams that many mothers go through. The screenplay that traverses through this journey of a sprightly young mother who decides to give her best shot to a second chance, is taut and wholesome, bringing out a story that is emotional, inspiring, nuanced and thoroughly engaging. The dialogues are sparkling and injected with humour and there are some delightful touches like the school mom’s Whatsapp group, which finally the father becomes part of. In fact Prashant’s character is also heroic in his own silent way. The writing by Ashwiny Iyer Tiwari, Nikhil Mehrohtra and Nitesh Tiwari is brilliant and is the backbone of the film. The soulful soundtrack (music by Shankar-Ehsaan-Loy, lyrics by Javed Akhtar) is woven in so smoothly that it never distracts yet touches the right chord. Moving to the performances, Kangana Ranaut as Jaya is terrific and the tour de force of the film – at home she is the gentle, dutiful Jaya who is simmering with this latent desire to break out and catch up with her dreams. And when she is on the court Kangana thrills with an absolutely throbbing, pulsating performance. She breathes in vulnerability and power – switching between the two facets of her character so swiftly and seamlessly that it is totally fascinating. The support cast too pitch in ace performances – Richa Chadha is superb as she gets under the skin of her steely character and also brings in plenty of the laughs. Jassie Gill as the supportive husband is impressive and does full justice to a very well written role. Debutant Yagya Bhasin as the Jaya’s driving force stands out with his comic timing. Neena Gupta is superlative – especially in the scene where she talks to Jaya on the phone. Megha Burman shines as the young kabbadi player. 'Panga' is a film that honours the endless hours of work that mothers put behind their families and at the same time urges them to never give up on their dreams and to take that second chance. It not only forms an important voice at a time when so many women drop out of the workforce, it is also an extremely well-crafted film. The humor and emotionally charged moments are deliciously balanced and the outcome is motivating and exhilarating. This ode to motherhood and chasing one’s dreams is a must watch.

Welcome back Kangana, we missed you. Panga essentially is a story about regaining confidence in one’s self. It goes beyond just skill, for that the person sitting next to you, wreaking havoc on the keyboard right now, also has. We are in fact surrounded by skilful people, who are where they are because they deserve it. And so do we. It is that confidence that is most fragile, it is that confidence that suffers the biggest hits. Jaya (Kangana) is 32, married, and mother of a seven-year-old. Prashant (Jassie Gill), her husband, loves her, respects her and more importantly, understands what she gave up to choose this life. So, what did she give up? Not just kabaddi and a spot in the national team right before the Asia Cup; she gave up her dream. Playing for the Railway Kabaddi Team has landed her a job, where there’s no respect or recognition, but there is stability. Jaya today specialises in aaloo ke parathe, but her eyes gleam when she bites into that occasional slice of pizza she is sharing with her family in front of the television set. On the opposite end of the spectrum is Meenu (Richa Chadha), same age as Jaya, unmarried, no kids, and currently coaching aspiring young girls in kabaddi. "Jab ladka tumhe dabochne ki koshish kare, pao se pakde, toh edi ko aise twist karo, aur patli gali se line ke uss par chale jaao, " she paints a more realistic picture so a girl in a small city like Bhopal can relate to while she charts her gaming strategy on the mat. The railway quarter with a loft in the kitchen where a room heater and a sandwich maker plays peek-a-boo, neatly packed in the boxes they came in, is so middle-class that it feels like home. But her setting is not a character in the story - it’s just there inconspicuously, furthering a Jaya and a Prashant’s story. They are ordinary people, middle-class, with middle-class dreams and limits, stemming from a middle-class conditioning. One such conditioning comes in the way of a bubbling desire in Jaya to make a comeback into the kabaddi team at 32. Motherhood. Even as Adi (Yagya Bhasin), her son, hands her a glass of milk because she needs physical strength to get back into the game, Jaya is torn. "Main chali jaungi toh ghar kaun samhalega, Adi ko dawai kaun dega, khana kaun banayega? " she asks and quickly adds, "Main apni hadd dekhna chahti thi. Isse aage jaungi toh cruel mother kehlaungi. " Caught between 'log kya kahenge' and her own reluctance to let go of the only thing that adds value to her existence now - her family - Jaya is almost losing her breath inches away from the line. One final push, maybe? And Ashwiny lends that push. A bit of willing suspension of disbelief, a lot of that feel-good factor that comes from watching an underdog win, Panga delivers the highs wonderfully. You walk out of the theatre feeling satiated, happy, not because of the extra butter on the popcorn. A still from Panga. That, again, is a double-edged sword. Because the audience already loves a good underdog story, shall we keep sticking to it? Panga in that sense plays to the gallery. Jaya trains and she trains hard, but the ease at which she overcomes her drawbacks, overpowers younger, fitter girls on the mat, is a stretch. Let's not forget she was out-of-practice for a good seven years. And while Serena Williams (an example used in the film) is a mother of one, winning Grand Slams after Grand Slams (she's at 23 wins right now), she never took a seven-year-long break. READ STREET DANCER 3D REVIEW HERE: As much as we'd like to believe that Jaya's win is possible, we cannot discount the fact that kabaddi is a difficult, all-body sport. And it is not sexist to admit that motherhood changes that. Panga lost a few points there. Kangana is good. Jassie emotes less and stares more, with an occasional nose-clenching grin that is both annoying and endearing. Neena Gupta has little to do in the film, very little. We are officially disappointed. Richa’s Meenu starts off a tad bit lacklustre compared to Kangana’s Jaya, and she has that complacency about her performance that we spotted in Inside Edge Season 2 too, but second-half Richa is just awesomesauce - we’re using this word for it just made it to Oxford Dictionary, and at the right time. Yagya Bhasin as seven-year-old Adi is a bomb. He does naughty, throws tantrums and sometimes spouts the most horrible things when he isn’t getting his way, just as kids do, but he also makes you fall in love with him. Panga is a good reminder that we all matter, individually, in our own way, in our own stories. It's a reminder to hold on to that little ball of confidence in you. And it's a reminder that Kangana doesn’t need to actually take panga, she can simply make one. We’re going with 3. 5 stars out of 5. Merci pour tout free download youtube. Bonjour! Je vis dans mon appart' depuis 6 ans en ADSL dégroupé chez Free. Mon débit est de ~15 Mb download/~1 Mb upload. Et voilà, depuis toutes ces années, j'ai du faire quinze-vingt tickets au SAV pour un soucis récurrent de ligne "dégradé". Ça a été vérifié à plusieurs reprises mais mon équipement ainsi que celui de Free n'est pas en cause et le soucis viendrait de la partie qui appartient à l'opérateur historique. Ce problème se traduit par de très fréquentes pertes de synchro ADSL qui peuvent se compter en seconde ou en heure selon les aléas ainsi qu'un débit bien amoché (dans les ~700 Kb upload au lieu de 1 Mb) Un petit exemple de ce que ça donne avec ma courbe ADSL - Depuis le 16 mars, c'est pas top à nouveau t_t. Bref, pendant le Xème dossier au SAV free, le technicien m'a expliqué que ma ligne avait été déclaré non optimisable par Orange et du coup, cela expliquerait la logique de l'appel au SAV > problème temporairement réglé sous 7j > Retour du problème dans les 15-70 jours suivants. Je précise que je ne suis pas éligible fibre, que je suis frileux à changer de FAI car je vais potentiellement quitter cet appart' et la France d'ici ~6-12 mois. Même si le SAV free a été à chaque fois compétent et amical/compréhensif, je suis très fatigué de cette logique. Des conseils ou idées? Merci!

The third act is bad and almost ruins the film, but the rest of it is built upon such compelling mystery and intrigue. I feel like every single line in the film might be deceptive, or a lie, you have to read between the lines to really figure out what's going on. And for those who love it as much as I do, the film has some serious Zima Blue references throughout the first half. It's a crafty commentary on art and the truth of art much like Zima Blue, complete with numerous mentions of the color blue and a pool. TIFF 2019: Film #17 A boring art thriller about a bunch of pretty people who don't know each other sitting in lavish settings talking about how much they don't know each other. Its critique of art and art criticism is toothless and the third act makes next to no sense. Sutherland hands in a kooky performance and Debicki does the best she can with material that is boderline disrespectful to her talent. Oh yeah and Mick Jagger is in this. Big pass on this for me, dawg. this was bad. but like, elizabeth debicki is 6’3 The guy sitting next to me snoring loudly into his seat sums this movie up pretty perfectly. Did not have the moves like Jagger. Recent reviews Has its moments. Has Mick Jagger. Has Elizabeth Debicki mostly allowed to be tall. And generally had me on superficial terms. But that kinda wound down at the end. Eh. listen, this things got its problems, but there is no doubt some fun to be had in the last half. This is why seeing movies without reading reviews/opinions beforehand and watching little to no trailers will always be best. A movie that would probably be amazing if written and directed by Rian Johnson. A little highbrow art drama where every scene takes place in a location that you know ran up the budget exponentially. Every character speaks as if their dialogue is a game of chess (which I always hate in movies). Sometimes they babble about some philosophical art shit or something. I actually didn't know what the plot really was until after the climax happened. Surprisingly, it wasn't nearly as boring as it might sound. I almost gave it 3 stars, but I really liked the turn it took in the third act, even if it may be a little dumb. Stars Elizabeth Debicki, and Mick Jagger too. I’ve only seen Debicki in movies that make her a monster, so it’s a nice change to let her be pretty and leggy while still being nuanced and vulnerable. Too bad the movie doesn’t respect her work! Since Bang is untrustworthy from the start, this film needed a greater connection between the “innocents” Debicki and Sutherland as well as something more sinister behind Mick Jagger’s character but all we get is Bang sweating through the final act. It is kind of weird that Mick Jagger plays an insanely wealthy art collector that may be less wealthy than Jagger is in real life. A fascinating exploration at the divide between artist and critic. Who would have thought Mick Jagger would have a highlight performance as an eccentric patron.  Saw at TIFF 19 with klaus Palm Springs Film Festival 2020: Very entertaining noir-style art-world mystery, at least until it falls apart with an anticlimactic nothing of an ending. Still worth seeing for a fantastic performance by Elizabeth Debicki, the very effective slow-building tension, and Mick Jagger channeling John Malkovich. That was interesting! I only with it would be messing with our heads a bit more, not just talking about it. Also, some more depth in Debicki's character would have been nice. I enjoyed it, but it COULD have been even better. Still, it's good enough, and I'd surely recommend it. Popular Lists More.

Ambitious students who might once have embarked upon an arduous training in neurosurgery can now stream the sound of panpipes, invest in a clutch of jade eggs, and swiftly prosper as wellness consultants. No profession has risen quite so fast, however, as that of intimacy coördinator. It’s a hell of a job. You hang around on movie sets, telling people in various states of undress what they can do to one another, what they mustn’t even think of when they’re doing it, what they definitely can’t do, and, once they’ve not done it, how to treat the nasty case of tennis elbow that they developed along the way. Yet the hardiest intimacy coördinator—armed with a tape measure, a protractor, a magnifying glass, and a copy of Peter Singer’s “Practical Ethics”—would struggle, I suspect, with “The Burnt Orange Heresy” and “The Whistlers. ” These two new films have a surprising amount in common. In each case, near the start, a man and a woman have sex. The activity itself is vanilla but vigorous, like a frothing milkshake. But what of the motivations? In “The Burnt Orange Heresy, ” the spent participants, who only just met, lounge around, in ecstasy’s wake, and riff about what comes next. “We’ll move to the States. Connecticut, probably. Buy a house, porch, with a swing and a brook, ” one says. “Babbling, ” the other adds. You can sense that the riffing turns them on, and that they’re almost certainly lying about what brought them to this encounter. As for “The Whistlers, ” the couple isn’t a couple. He’s a cop and she’s a criminal, but they’re in league, and she pretends to be a sex worker, summoned to his apartment, because they’re all too aware of being watched on CCTV by those who wish them ill. In short, what appears to be consensual intimacy, in both movies, is an act of deliberate carnal deceit. Coördinate that. “The Burnt Orange Heresy, ” directed by Giuseppe Capotondi, stars Claes Bang (I’m saying nothing) as an art critic named James Figueras. Though handsomely clean-cut, he’s ragged around the edges in ways that are hard to define; you’d willingly lend him money, but you wouldn’t expect to get it back. We first meet him in Milan, where he’s lecturing to a group of culture buffs—spinning them a yarn about a nonexistent painter and then smoothly reeling them in. They are joined by a latecomer, the elegant Berenice Hollis (Elizabeth Debicki), of no fixed abode. She and Figueras, wasting no time, become firm friends, as detailed above, and he asks her along on his next jaunt: an invitation from a wealthy art collector, Joseph Cassidy, to his villa on Lake Como. Tough gig. Cassidy is played by none other than Mick Jagger, who has graced our feature films all too rarely since he played the reclusive rock star of “Performance” (1970), delivering “Memo from Turner” in a crowing drawl, among half-naked gangsters, with Ry Cooder on slide guitar. If Jagger’s character hadn’t been shot at the end of that movie, you could imagine him growing up into the comically rich Maecenas of “The Burnt Orange Heresy”—though not, as yet, growing old. Cassidy is an extraordinary figure: wicked, wrinkled, flute-thin, flawlessly dressed, with a head too big for his frame and a smile too big for his head. The smile suggests a perpetual amusement, as if he were enjoying a joke that is far too private to share. Identifying Figueras as a fellow-knave, Cassidy gives him a delicate sin to commit. The target is Jerome Debney (Donald Sutherland), the Salinger of painters—an object of both reverence and rumor, long vanished from the public eye. In fact, he’s dwelling quietly in the grounds of the villa, and Figueras’s mission, should he choose to accept it, is to steal a Debney, having inveigled himself into the artist’s confidence. What (or, indeed, whether) he has been creating of late is not the point. Cassidy, like all patrons, craves to possess. “The Burnt Orange Heresy” began as a 1971 novel by Charles Willeford: cavalryman, tank commander, poet, boxer, crime writer, and college professor. No bio-pic could contain so thronged a life. “Miami Blues, ” published in 1984, four years before his death, was adapted into a sharp-witted thriller, with Alec Baldwin and Jennifer Jason Leigh, and I was praying for a repeat with “The Burnt Orange Heresy. ” Everything’s in place, and there’s not a weak link in the cast, with Debicki—lofty, playful, and unreadable—in especially beguiling form. The idea that art, like love, is something that you can make or fake, and that surprisingly few people can tell the difference, will always be ripe for exploration. And yet the movie stumbles. The book was set in Florida, and the prettifying switch to Italy adds languor but subtracts fever; even when the plot speeds up, in the final third, the atmosphere feels more hasty than intense, and the alluring promise of the early scenes, when you couldn’t tell if the hero was fooling the heroine, or vice versa, melts away. They should have stayed in bed. It’s been a while since whistling had a major role in a movie. Admirers of Hitchcock’s “The 39 Steps” (1935) will remember the earworm stuck in Robert Donat’s brain—the musical phrase that he couldn’t help whistling, and that returned to him, laden with fresh meaning, at the finale. Then there’s the emotional pick-me-up of “I Whistle a Happy Tune, ” as sung by Deborah Kerr (or, rather, by Marni Nixon, the queen of dubbing), in “The King and I” (1956). Now we have Corneliu Porumboiu’s “The Whistlers, ” the plot of which demands that the characters put their lips together and blow. Much of the tale is set in La Gomera, one of the Canary Islands. La Gomera is the ancient home of El Silbo, the nonverbal idiom by which its inhabitants have traditionally made contact across the island’s gullies and ravines. The component sounds of Spanish words, cut down to two vowels and four consonants, are conveyed by whistling, the trick being to curl your fingers against your mouth with one finger outstretched, as if your hand were a gun. That is how Cristi (Vlad Ivanov), a Romanian visitor to La Gomera, is taught the rudiments of Silbo by an expert, who explains, “If the police hear the language, they will think the birds are singing. ” Pastoral noir! The fact that Cristi is the police only proves what a heap of trouble he’s in. Still, he’s an ideal student of Silbo, being not just a quick learner but a taciturn sort, more likely to clam up than to spill. The less talking you do, in his line of work, the better. But what is that line? There’s no risk of my revealing what happens in Porumboiu’s film, because I remain, as I began, in the dark. All I can tell you is that Cristi’s a bent cop, based in Bucharest, and trying to operate on both sides of the fence. He has a scary superior, Magda (Rodica Lazar), who is battling corruption, although she, too, is prepared to flex the rules. That may be why her office is bugged. The official villains include a money-laundering gangster, Zsolt (Sabin Tambrea), and his girlfriend, Gilda (Catrinel Marlon), the woman who sleeps with Cristi in the interests of untruth. He warms to her, and, at one point, they communicate from afar in Silbo, as though it were a natural language of love. If Cristi were a Rita Hayworth fan, he would recall one of the first principles of cinema: Never, ever fall for anyone named Gilda.

A remarkable achievement by filmmaker Alla Kovgan, spending seven years to make this classic tribute to the late dancer/choreographer Merce Cunningham.
Working with both archive footage and valuable sound recordings, she conjures up the avant-garde artist through recordings of his work, his philosophy of his art and comments by many close collaborators including notably John Cage and Robert Rauschenberg. Not meant as a biopic, film concentrates on spectacularlhy cinematic (in 3-D) new performances of many of his dances, executed by members of his company, which disbanded in 2011, after Merce's death in 2009.
At a q&a following the screening, Kovgan indicated that Wim Wenders' innovative 2011 3-D dance film about German choreographer Pina Bausch inspired her to take on this formidable project, finally starting shooting in Stuttgart in 2015 with principal photography taking place in 2018.
Her use of 3-D technique is outstanding, resulting in gripping visual images, enhanced by the accompaniment of the original dance scores by John Cage and others. For a novice like me, not overly familiar with Merce's achievements, the movie brings his dance to life and points to how 3-D technology can be used artfully rather than as a gimmick, or its current excuse to permit higher price points for movie admissions to films, both animated and action-oriented, that should play just as well if not better in 2-D on large screens.

Then fast forward and I meet an amazing guy almost 4.5 years ago.
